Liberty trans
Who is running a Liberty and how do you like it? I know Chuck is running one and so is Clay Sloan and they both have done endos...lol...so I am kinda wary about even trying.
If those 2 guys read this, what were the reasons for the downshift? Was it the tranny, driver error, or something else?
Thanks

The endo wasn't trans related, well not libertys fault anyways!! we broke the gear selector inside the trans allowing a 1st gear shift instead of 3rd.. besides that we have ran the same setup, for almost a year and have had no issues. I love the trans, quick shifts and very reliable..

I didn't know that there gear set has existed for three years. What about g-force. Did you know that they make a complete gear set. Actually they produced gears but not ring and pinions. But that should be for sale any day now. I think they said they wanted $3500 for the complete package. I'd check them out. I here libertys billet cases were breaking easy in testing.
Smokey I beleive liberty gears are $3995

I was at Liberty's Gears not long ago(Mid-Sept.) getting one of our trans fixed and while I was there I spoke to Craig himself about the honda stuff they have. Very nice looking pieces, as well as some other prototype stuff they are working on that wasnt out yet. The guys at Liberty's get some mean high HP big block cars down the track...I have confidence that they will get the honda's down the track too.
The liberty gears are very strong, there's no question about that. The problem with having an H pattern dogbox is that it's very easy to misshift and stick it in the wrong gear. Chuck has done it twice now, losing a motor both times, 1,2,1 12k+. A dog cut gear will go into gear VERY easy, where as a syncro box will not go back into first at 100mph very easy. With the Long shifter this could be a very good combination. Does anyone have a Long shifter working good?

We ran the liberty dogbox setup with a Long shifter, and when its working its one awsome combination!! but we have had nothing but problem with our trans since switching to the long shiffter, its almost to much leverage for the stock parts inside the trans, we keep tearing up the selector inside the transmission that shifts the shift forks, and Tony1 is correct the dogbox setup will go into gear, even when you dont want it to
but we ran the dogbox setup for almost a year on a stock shifter, awsome full throttle shifts, and not one bit of trouble.

the prototype part that they were working on was a billet front case piece, which would be a "bell housing" in my world. Did anyone know they were working on this?

I'm not real big on the Gforce stuff. Everytime I have talked to them they won't do custom ratios. So they are out.
I have a long shifter in the Insight and I have been working on it all week. This is not something you are going to just install and go run. It takes a lot of tweaking. We have modified a few things and I think it is going to work great. Time will tell. There were several cars at Norwalk using the shifter, and they were all having shifting problems except Stephanie Eggum. She said she loves the shifter. I think people just aren't taking the time to set the damn thing up.
I just saw the PAR ERE gears last night. If he would share some of his personal experience with choosing ratios...SOLD. EDIT* actually...ratios aren't all that hard to figure out based on your powerband, but his knowledge would be pretty helpful. Does anyone have any $ they would like to give away

We spent a whole season trying to get our shifter to work, with different setups, and had no luck, Im tired of fooling with it, and dads tired of fixing trans problems, due to the shiffter!! but this is just our opinion, and luck doesnt mean someone else cant get it to work??
A couple of years ago the fab man for Andrew Bermea made a gate to run with a stock shifter. It was almost fool proof. You couldn't put it into the wrong gear and with the gates you should be able to shift it nicely. I don't know if he is still around.
what about making a first gear lockout mechanism? Used to work good on my VW back in the day for reverse. You will only need it to stage then youre good to go.

Are they still welding the dog peices on the gears? How are they holding up? We have a set here that a customer had us swap back over to stock configuration a while back. I think he had the same issue with gear selection.

The customer had the welded set up...I would like to see a non welded set up. They are cool cats down there with lots of experience...so I am interested in seeing their newer stuff.
