Default ecu problems

im having a problem with my 89 si i have a first gen b16a and it will not rev past 3400 and the only code on my ecu is vtec pressure but it feels like it is in limp mode, a few days ago i went to a shop and told them my problem and he said it sounds like i blew the chip in my ecu and thats why its running the way it is. he said the vtec pressure would not throw my car into limp mode. and that he could chip my ecu for me and it will help fix my problem. does this sound right or does he know what he is talking about, please help i dont want to pay for the chipping and not fix my problem. should i do it

Default Re: ecu problems (nickcrx)

The car is running on the backup rom, which means there's something wrong with the ecu hardware. The fact that it runs at all means there's probably hope, and that the chip might somehow have gotten corrupted. Chipping it just may solve the problem, although you may want to open the ecu case and see if anything is obviously wrong, like broken, corroded, burnt, etc.
