help me pick a spring rate
ok guys, im probably going to be ordering the HT special kit - koni shocks and GC coilovers with top hats, but i am unsure of what spring rate to go with.
Car is a 95 del sol. fully built gsr up front, plan to be putting down about 400 to the wheels. Car does have a cage (would that change the recomended spring rates?)
Its my second car, basically a weekend car or for whenever i go out. Will see a decent amount of track time - mostly drags, there arent any autocrosses around here
I want something pretty stiff, i like taking corners, but i dont want it to kill me on subpar roads...
Thanks for an info

Go with off the shelf rates for now. You can always change them later.

Que?
And there's no need to keep bumping so often... it may take a while, but you'll eventually get answers.

Not sure I can recommend rates for you, but I'll throw some info out here for you. I'm running 400/400 on my gsr and its rather stiff for street duty. Granted the Azenis I have don't help any. However, even though I say "rather stiff", its still perfectly streetable in my opinion. I just have to remember to duck for the bigger freeway bumps, I've already hit the ceiling 3 times...
Since the del sol is lighter, you'd get the same feeling with weaker springs. Also, the shorter wheelbase could make springs feel even stiffer than on a longer wheelbase vehicle, like a Civic or Integra, so keep that in mind when looking at other people's rates.

Certainly good advice there.

You are limited in the rates that you can select with the HT G/C kit.
I suggest that you call them and talk to them
By the way, I have 450/600, and it is STIFF (turn the shocks down helps, but's it's rather obnoxious)
GC does have a honda-motor swap kit, so I would think they figured out some good rates, call them and they should be able to recommend something good for you using the following available rates:
front rates 340 380 430 545
rear rates 250 350 430 545

i called them this morning and the guy i talked to reccomended for me to get 430 lb/in front and 545 lb/in rear, from what you guys are saying thats probably going to be too stiff? should i drop it down to 380 frnt 430 rear?
430/545 will probably be pretty bouncy, you girlfriend will not like it.
The car handles awesome though. Its pretty amazing.
380/430 would probably be nicer if you are daily driving, but you mentioned it is a weekend car.
I use my car for auto-x and track, I drive it once a week on the streets and to whichever event I am going to, so I don't mind it too much, but the 55 mile drive to the auto-x kinda sucks.
If it is truly a 2nd car, I would get the 430/545

Your 95 Del Sol does not have struts. There is no write-up comparing shock damping rates to spring rates because there is no comparison to make. Either the damping level(s) is well suited for the spring rates, or not. If you are looking well-matched damper/spring combos out there, then its just a matter of searching.
