'00 Accord failed inspection. Help?
Took my car and it failed for two reasons.
1) Emmissions
2) A code of P1149 from the OBDII computer reading. (I did have both the engine check light on, and the SRS light on as well. The srs light went on two days ago.)
Anyway, I found out that the P11149 means "Primary HO2s (sensor 1) Circuit Range/Performance Problem." - Does this mean the Oxygen sensor ?
Also, where is the MES plug located in the car ?
Any ideas ? Should I go to a mechanic or should I try to fix it ? I'm pretty handy, but not very knowledgebale towards the sensor. Although I'd give it a shot at replacing it.
Is there any '00 hnda manuals that tell you where the sensor is located and also basic maintenance ?
Any ideas are appreciated .
Thanks.

Primary O2 sensor is located at the bottom of the exhaust manifold, right at the collector. You can see the wires coming from the heat shield.
You can remove it with an open-ended wrench, or with an O2 sensor socket. It's as easy as removing your oil drain plug. Literally.

I would replace the O2 sensor... it turns out to be the cause for that code nearly every time. As for the MES connector.... it's located on the underdash fuse/relay box. However, you would need to short the connector together to clear the code, and it's really just easier to disconnect the battery for a while, unless you have access to a scan-tool to clear the code.
Don't know much about this subject so I'll just throw this out:
My '99 had a recall on it two or three years ago for something like the throttle body ignition. The sheet said that without having this fixed, the car could fail emissions.
So... you might want to make sure there's no outstanding recalls on your car.

First of all a Big Thank You to all who responded.
I just have a quick follow-up Question.
I've decide to replace the Oxygen sensor. However, after looking at honda parts, they list both a front oxygen sensor and a rear oxygen sensor ?
So, which one should I replace ? (I'm hoping that 'both' is not the answer)
(I may not be able to afford replacing the O sensor(s), and having the dealership review the srs light)I also have the SRS light on, but the P code that I listed at top of this thread I presume is strictly for the exhaust system failure.
thanks again.
I'll post with my ending results...it may take 2-3 weeks.
The front oxygen sensor is considered sensor 1. Just replace that one. The SRS light is something totally different... You will have to retrieve the code to figure out the reason the light is on.

I think many of the code readers & scan tools that ordinary mortals can afford, won't read airbag error codes.
