Default "Custom Exhaust System"

Um...I keep hearing cats go on about "custom" exhaust systems. According to them, going to J.C. Whitney, buying some mandrel bent steel pipe and attaching a muffler to it works just as well as Greddy, Tanabe, etc. Is this wise? Anybody hear done this. If so, I'm interested, mine has just about had it and is about to rust it's way into oblivion. How many bends do I need for a 91 Hatchback?

Ur gona need to get em welded, getting those bolt on clamps kinda defeats the purpose of having mandrel bends since it crunches the hell out of the pipe. Depending on how you want your exhaust to go you will need a few bends, take measurements and then order your pipes, make sure to coat em with something so they dont rust, if you do it all right it will be the same thing as a custom exhaust. Just be sure to coat it like i said to make sure it lasts.

If you want to build your own system and cant make mandrel bends is it still better if you can crush bend your piping?
