Default Parking brake problems

I am having a problem. My parking brake is not working on the left side. the right side is working fine but the left side just wont engauge. I checked the cable and it is not frozen. I have tried adjusting it in the car behind the brake handle under the center console and nothing. Is there another adjusting point or any ideas that anyone may have. The only conclusion I can come up with is that there is a problem in the caliper. What do you all think?

Yeh, Here's the Parts catalog illustration from Honda

http://www.hondaautomotivepart...IN%29

You'll note there is (of all things) an adjuster bolt (#27) which screws into the back of the caliper piston (#9), if it binds, you can loose e'brake effect

How could that bolt cause any kind of problems, and how do I take the piston out twist it out, pump the brakes until the piston comes out of the caliperor what?

you DO NOT want to take that piston out...unless you wanna chance replacing that caliper...i bet its the caliper that's out of adjustment. The cable that the ebrake connects to on the caliper is the one you should be adjusting. Remember, the piston turns in and out...not just pushed in. When replacing the rear brake pads, maybe you forgot to adjust the caliper a bit to tighten up the ebrake?

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by ts94acc &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">How could that bolt cause any kind of problems, and how do I take the piston out twist it out, pump the brakes until the piston comes out of the caliperor what?</TD></TR></TABLE>Twist it in & out. That's the handbrake auto-adjusting mechanism in there. If it's bent or stuck or something, then it won't take up the slack as the pads wear out.

I guess the first thing I'd do is twist the piston OUT just enough so the handbrake works on that side. Maybe it'll start auto-adjusting itself after that, but probably not. If it doesn't, then you can take it apart or get a new/rebuilt caliper.
