review: t1r axle back and dc jdm header
well well, this weekend i finally got my stuff!
dc jdm 4-1 stainless header
catco cat
2.5in custom bpipe
typeone racing axle back
install was very straight forward, no real hang ups. Things that slowed me down: i couldnt get the header to fit over the bracket bolt things down by the collector. Turns out i just had to loosen the bolts that hold the bracket on the car, put that end on, then work the primaries onto the head. Also i needed longer spring bolts to bolt the header to the cat... but i couldnt find any. so right now im running regular bolts. if they break they break, if they dont they dont, but im keeping my eye out for new ones. I was able to reuse the axle back spring bolts no problem.
well ground clearance blows, and the noise blows even harder. with the silencer in, its still considerably louder than my greddy evo ever was. in all honesty, its boarderline unbearable. but whatever, ill get used to it. Im also throwing a CEL. I havent gotten around to pull the code, but i assume its the secondary o2 sensor. Ive heard that catco cats go after a while, and this one had been used about 6k miles, so maybe thats it. for whatever reason i just dont care.
power gains are incredible. the car feels 100% different over 5k rpm, i mean like its a bat outta hell. i was shocked and appauled the first time i got on it, people arent joking when they say it really frees up that engine, its unbelieveable. Even my passengers were shocked. so on that side, its great.
now do the power gains make up for the ground cleance, noise, and cel? right now i say yes, and i stand by that. the header doesnt hang any lower than my lip, and its tucked back the axle, so it really doesnt affect my degree of assention or whatever. i just gotta worry about irregularities in parking lots and the like. The sound is loud as hell, but i mean, who is shocked by that. and the cel will be fixed or just ignored. smog testing you say? ill wory about it in 18 months.
