90 Prelude ATF question
i'm changing the automatic transmission fluid in a 90 prelude and need to know how much fluid to get before i start the job - just doing a drain and replace not tearing down the transmission. any help is appreciated!
also is there a filter on the automatic transmission??

Usually takes about 3 quarts...and yes there is a filter that should be changed as well. it's inside the drain pan. you can buy the filter/gasket kit at any parts store....becareful removing the drain pan, it can get messy. hopfully you have a drain plug to empty the fluid first....if not...your going to have to remove the drain pan and let all the fluid out.
A little trick just in case you have to drop the pan: it's usually a bunch of 10mil bolts holding it up and this should help you from having tranny fluid spill all over the place and on you.
1) have a big drain pan under the tranny
2) lossen and remove the bolts starting at the far end away from you
3) leave a couple of lossen bolts attached at your end.
4) with a screwdriver, slowly pry open the far end pan. fluid should start to flow out.
5) now lossen the bolts at your end to control amount of drainage.
6) remove the pan, drain and clean the pan (also clean the magnetic pick up)
7) remove & install the new filter
8) remove & install the new pan gasket (old-school trick to keep the gasket in place...."vasaline"...lol) it works like a charm and it's made out of petroleum, so it will keep the gasket from hardening.
9) install the pan and torque the bolts to specs.
10) fill the tranny with fluid and your done.....
Peace.

sorry for the late, it will take 3.5 quarts (with new filter).
Better to buy 4 quarts and keep checking the dip stick after putting in the 3.5
