Default 91 Honda Accord wont start, help

This is what happened...battery light and oil light came on at the same time while driving, so I stopped the car immediately and shut off the engine. tried to start it again half a minute late with no luck. Now the car is just sitting there and I dont know nothing about cars. My cousin opened hood and replaced a few things with new ones, it still wont start. what should I do know? Is there anything I can try myself or should I just take it to a mechanic shop?

Does it even turn over when you try to start it?

yeah it does. if I turn the key to second level, both battery and oil lights remain on, if I try to start the car, these lights go off but the car wont start. My cousin told me the battery and timing belt are fine. He'll come over again tomorrow with his friends, but I really need to have it fixed as soon as possible cuz I need to go to work and this is my only car.

Well, it sounds like an ignition problem. Could be a bad coil, or a bad ignitor, or even a failed main relay. The problem is diagnosing the exact cause. Assuming your previously stated knowledge level... I think I would advise having it looked at by a reputable shop.

Thanks guys. The first thing Im gonna do tomorrow is replace the main relay, Im reading a article about it and it seems like a easy job to do. if that doesnt work, I'll just go to a shop, hope its nothing serious. I'll post back and let you know how it goes. thank you!

Yeah!! My car is running again! it was a bad distributor. Got a remanufactured distrabutor from auto-zone for 230 bucks, put it on and the car fired right up~~I also replaced the main relay although the old one still looks good, maybe I'll just sell it on ebay or something. anyway, thank you all so much for the help and information, you guys are the best!

you could have gotten a brand new distributor from Distributor King for 100$ less.

What I've found with this gen. accord is that the Crank Angle Sensor in the distributors go bad.. When they go bad there are no symptoms... The car will just die.

I've never seen a main relay problem cause a car to quit running while going down the road.
I have seen the ignition switch cause that problem how ever.........
Stop throwing parts and $$$$$ at the problem, and diagnose the problem.
