Default all season tire choice 5th gen.

after a few hours of searching h-t. and tirerack and reading reviews and posts... i decided on 2 tires for the upcoming fall/winter season. also, one of my front tires just got punctured. so it'll need to be replaced anyways.

205/50WR16 SL Kumho ECSTA ASX Blackwall $328.00

205/45HR16 Yokohama AVID H4S Blackwall $316.00

the kuhmo's had slightly better reviews and stats, but i ran kuhmo's for summer and they were garbage. so i'm not fond of kuhmos, but people who have the asx seem to like them. also, the kuhmo's are OE size.

the yoko's are cheaper and the stats are almost the same as kuhmos, but they aren't OE size. but i've read that its "better" to run 45 for gearing/acceleration.

if anyone has run or is running these tires, and has more input, i would appreciate it.

I don't know but I'm gettin me some snow tires this winter. You could do the same and have a better set for the summer.

I don't know anything about the tires you have listed, but I am in the need of a set of tires soon too and am interested to see what people recommend for an all season tire. I was looking into getting the BFGoodrich Traction T/A's. They seem to have received a lot of good reviews on tirerack.com.

All season performance tires will never match the performance of a summer tire, or the winter traction of snow tire. Basically, they're mediocre at both.

And even though it may seem "expensive" to get two sets of tires, remember you're making the sets last twice as long.

So do your self a favor: get some snows, and in the summer, get some summer tires.

That being said they're both okay tires.

I just put the ASX's on my 4th gen and like them a lot so far, but I only have about 100 miles on them. They are quiet, grip well fairly well in the turns, and have a decent treadwear rating. Them on my 16" slips are 10000 times better than my 14" steelies w/ "Negotiator" tires.

It's actually more than twice as long, as tires that are summer-compatible have to be made of harder rubber to counter-act the heat, and in the winter they harden, lose grip, and crack.

Besides, if you winter-drive your car... you should put safety first! You might save on insurance... but after you slip and hit a curb sideways (lucky if it's just that)... you'll be regretting it.

All season tires are poop, period. Some are better than others but none does a good job at everything.

i wanted to get two sets of tires too(summer/winter) but i would have to get them put on and balanced each season, and i don't have room in my house to store them. i have a garage full of stuff, and a shed already with 8 tires/rims. not to mention my brother's car is getting ready to put on new winter tires too.

thanx for the replies guys. i think i'll research a little more then, and do the math and figure if its more beneficial to get two sets.

Well just get some steelies or used rims for the winter tires. They'll get beat to crap anyways. Once you do that, you won't have to have them balanced or anything anymore.

i WOULD get a set of rims for different seasons, but i'm too picky about how they look. i'd rather rock stock rims then some fugly ones that i won't like. (i want volks le28 special edition--but no money now) and to update on my decision. i decided not to go with any of my choices, but rather

Falken Ziex 512. They were cheaper then both and i've read a lot of 5th gen'ers ride em.

yeah i was about to suggest the 512's.

don't expect to break any track records with em, but they're a decent tire.

Go with the Kuhmo's
Ive had them about a year now and they've been through summer/fall/winter/spring and did well throughout all of them, they grip hard no matter the condition, but in anycase pure snowtires or pure summer tires will outdo an allseason tire, but if your like me you cant afford that, so the kuhmo is a great choice for an all around tire.
