First Accord First Problem
Hey guys. Picked up a 97 accord this past weekend. the dealer had lowered it and put it on 17's. Engine runs strong. It's an automatic, has intake and exhause which will be removed shortly. Annoyingly loud.
Anyway, here is my problem. After driving it home from the lot, i heard a clicking sound. The sound comes from the front passenger tire area.
This only occurs when the car is coming to a stop when the brake is applied. Seems to click with every rotation of the tire.
Anyone know what this is? Also when the car comes to a complete stop the clicking turns into a creaking.
Any help is appreciated thanks

possible cracked rotor. although i want to doubt that cuz the dealer should have done a uvi. id contact the dealer and ask for the uvi form. it tells u what the tech found on the car and did to it.
at first when you said there was clicking i was thinking of what it could be, but when i read there was creaking at the stop, definitly sounds like a rotor problem, cant be a CV with the way you described but i dont have much experience with suspension problems
Wow, a dealer actually lowered a used car! I've GOT to check out that dude's inventory.
Although extremely rare, A cracked rotor MIGHT cause a click, as could also a loose Brake pad in the caliper assembly.
The 'Creak" noise you hear could be from a dry lower ball joint or a dry control arm bushing.
If your State has regulations governing used car inspections (the car has to be inspected by the dealership (either new or used) in the State of Rhode island before delivery), you can ask the dealership you bought it from to address it. these are considered safety items (certainly a cracked rotor or a ball joint)

it wasn't quite a honda dealer or big dealer. One of those dealers you see on the side of the street.
I took it back to this guy, he had told me he needed apply more grease, that it had dried up while sitting. Sounded like BS to me. So he keeps my car for 2 days and i get it back only to find it making the same noise.
I'm in CA, I will ask him for the u.c.i. or u.v.i.
But tomorrow i'm going to take it to a brake shop, see if they can diagnose this problem so i can have the dealer take care of it, and not give me the ru n around. Seeing as this is a safety issue
Other than this problem, and the fact that my right blinker is wacked out, I Love my "new" Accord. Will post pics as soon as i find a host and figure out how to use it.
Thanks guys for the replies. If anyone else has any ideas of what this is, plz post.
Also, could it be bad wheel bearings? I had a SIMILAR problem on my 91 teg, in which the bearing finally gave way one nite and caused me all sorts of problems
Is that a common problem on lowered cars? Well lowered cars that haven't been aligned.

Dust/grease seal, maybe. But the hub bearing, not likely. The bearing sounds more like a low pitched growl, which rises in pitch as you go faster.

if it was a bearing ull also feel some sort of vibration. im willing to bet its something with the rotor. i have seen problems like this before. if u want jus take the wheel off and look at it urself. even though u should not have to do this. any kind of shop/garage/dealer whos selling a car should have it checked out before they sell it.

Hey thanks guys. the car is definately going into the shop tomorrow morning.
Yah there is no vibration on the clicking. I dont feel anything at all.
So yah I'll get the rotors checked, my pads, and the lower ball joint.
Hopefully i can take care of this thru the dealer without too much of a hassle. Doubtful

Doesn't sound like it should be to hard to figure out.

I would just offer some words of caution though. Brakes need to be safe, no question about that. However, brakes can make noise and still be safe. A clicking sound that could be caused by a brake pad shifting in the caliper... or a warped rotor, or even a backing plate that is bent and contacting the rotor is hardly considered unsafe. The dealer that you bought the car from might give you a hard time about fixing it for free.
