Need more info........
1- what do you have in the car now?
2- MM&Y of car.
3- type of music you listen to.
4- some kind of budget. "im not trying to spend a lot" is a relative statement, to some $100 is a lot, to others $1000 is a lot, to others it's not a lot until it gets stupid.

Other things to take into account, are you planing on keeping the car "long term",
would building a system over time be an option, can you do it all yourself or would you need a pro to do it for you, [has to be part of budget] 94

Start by getting a new set of front speakers.

Start with the basics.

Then work on a sub.

I'd suggest getting a pair of eclipse speakers, i have them in my hatch and they sound great.

i was just in your position a few days ago. today I got a used jl audio 10w04 which is the entry level sub for 45 bucks. then I went to good guys for a scorpion box for 40 bucks. so total only 95. now all I need is an amp, but since the set up is pretty weak, all I need to spent is maybe another 50, plus wires but someone gonna hook me up for that hopefully

If all you need is a sub and amp, I suggest you go to your local car audio shops, bring along you fave CD and get a demo of some of there loaded sub boxes and amps in your price range, add $200 to what you want to spend if you intend on getting the equipment from online dealers in the end, [as they will be cheaper] or if you are going to buy retail tell them what you want to spend, and shop around for the best deal, the advantage of a retail shop is you can listen to things before you buy, also touchy/feely, [you can't do that online] also you can bargain with a salesman at a retail store, nothing will motivate a salesman into bargaining fasted then telling him you are buying today from him or the guy down the street. 94
