Default to the people that removed their a/c

sorry, another a/c question. When I removed mine today the A/C compressor was bolted up to a black mount on the motor. This black mount, I'm assuming, is to reinforce the belt tension on the a/c belt? Or does this mount also serve as a "motor mount" for the motor also? I took it off, and it weighs alot, that's why I'm asking. I wouldn't mind leaving it out, but if I need to, then I would throw it back in. Heres a pic I dug up from my library..

It's the black bracket to the right of the header.

Here's a pic from today:

no black bracket.

Yes you need that, put it back in. If you are concerned with weight, get the JDM aluminum one.

wait, i just looked at AJ's website:

It doesn't even look like it mounts up to the frame like how the usdm one does? Could you tell me the purpose of the AC mounting bracket?

Nice, its not even itr related its a general tech Q. Its called a 'torque mount', its one of 5 engine mounts, and the JDM one WILL work so just listen to Bradstard.

BTW nice automatic

removed it out of our track car 3 years ago, no issues what so ever. 100+track events and counting.....
no engines landing in our laps yet

Did the same thing 5 years ago with no issues whatsoever on my track only car.

Hmmm, I wanna start CADing and get to a CNC machine to make something not nearly as big as that, but serves the same function. The JDM one is alluminum, but there is still all that extra metal thats not needed.

if you have an EK/EJ which utilizes the liquid-filled rubber driver-side top mount, then yes you will definitely need that torque mount. however, lots of EG and DC guys are able to run without the two torque mounts since their driver-side mount is a solid piece that connects to the chassis.

your call, but i would run all mounts that a car was originally equipped with.

I've still got mine in the project car but after what the Loose man said I may try to run it with it off. Never knew about this mad JDM bling aluminum one.

Is that Pooface's engine bay? I see no turbo, but I think I recognize the GHETTO sticker.

I am still curious what this piece of metal serves for other than hold the AC compressor? Does it somehow keep the motor "together" so it could "explode" or anything else without it? This piece is mounted only on the motor, not on the chassis right?

its bolted the the chasis also

from what I have seen on here, people who switch to after-market upper mounts like HASport don't have a need for the lower mounts.

k20 swaps also only use the upper mounts + the rear tq mount in EG/DC chasis

That AC mount is mounted to the motor and the chassis.
