Just re installed head unit, and now it wont work unless its grounded
Ok something is wrong here, the cd player a prelude one wont work in my hatch now that i put the whole car back together. It only does it if it gets some contact with metal and if i mess with it like move it back in forth it sparks. Has this happened to anyone? BTW I took my whole car apart and put it back together for a paint job.
get a harness or wire it correctly.
you have some loose wires that are probably grounding out.
BTW wiggling it with those loose wires can cause you to damage, the HU, speakers, amp if you have one.
trust me, i had a loose remote wire and my amp sparked, smokes, and flames after i "wiggled it"

That cant be it. 98 and 97 preludes used the smae harness as us. This is the stock harness attaching to the back of it.

No my man, u didnt read it right i said prelude cd player in a hatch. To most its common knowledge most 98 and lower hondas all use the same radio harness. From 99 up they changed again in all hondas, thats why we need a conversion harness to run a 98 radio harness on a 99 but in my case im fine with a stock prelude one cd player from a 97 car. My point of this thread is, what could cause it to spark like that? Bad ground somewhere? I know i dont have the black ground connected to the ash tray because of problems with it. Could that have caused it?

Well you need to explain more.
If it was the coorect harness, you wouldn't have any problems. I used an EK harness in my 88 CRX and it worked fine with no problems.

i belive they are grounded when you bolt them using those small 10mm hex nuts to the 'cage' type thing that it slides into. so i think thats what the problem is, its those bolts that wither fasten to the sides through something metal to the radio. do you have those in? i think they ground through that?
good luck

Interesting, cause i never screwed the cd player through any of the brackets. I would just slide it in. I recently pulled the whole dash and car apart for a reubuild and paint job. Now that i put it back together this is happeneing. Its real wierd. Never had this problem before...
