Well b'cuz of your time constraint, you're limited to a local repair (Speedy or Minekie etc) so your best bet is to pound the phone keys rather than the computers' keyboard.
I'm gonna guess you've a '91 Accord non-EX. If you need just the Intermediate pipe and Muffler: $203.81 from Honda (as an example). (refer supplied illustration). If you need parts from the converter forward - God help you (do the math)

why dont you ask the sword of omens, HOOOOO

depends on what kind of exhaust you want, you can go with the stock, or catback or whatever kind you want, catback can be from 200-400 dollars, stock wouldnt cost you that much though, depends on what you want

Factory Replacement exhaust actually ends up being about double the cost of a cat-back system

True, but because of the time constraint he's under:

[QUOTE]
"i got about a day to fix this problem"

He's not going to find a cat-back system in his local area for his '91
His only route is the "Big Box Exhaust" franchaises

he might be paying double as far as getting it from and installed by the dealer, but lets not forget the mechanics that would be putting on that catback system, and the fact that they always round to the next hour, and can take as long as they want to do it

Stuff ALWAYS happens on Friday. That way you can get sufficiently ****...d over the weekend cuz you couldn't get it fixed. Come Monday, you're in a royal tear and to add insult to injury, you gotta take a day out of work to get the ^%$&(* car fixed.
Welcome to the weekend.

Wasn't far off, was I ??
Yeh, The EX Muffler Assm is more $$$ (Dual chrome tips ect.)

The $400.00 Piece you speak of is probably the Catalytic Converter (#1 in the prior supplied illustration)

If it had been the "A" Pipe (the one that looks like a Chinese Finger trap) the total freight for this Fiasco would have crowded $900 in parts alone.

Hey, If nothing else I try to shoot straight

Good Luck P

yes the Catalytic Converter changes the chemicals in your exhaust such as CO and NOx to CO2 and water vapor

Yup, That's what's called the "A" Pipe. Dual downtube w/flex section (looks like Chinese finger trap). Probably the only "Why did they do that?" part on the whole exhaust system.

Any of us that have owned 3rd and 4th Gen Accords sympathize, we've all been there

what mechanics are you dealing with? must be some shady/shifty ones at my dealership we have tenths ex. exhaust on a accord pays 1.4hrs. if you cant do math ill make it even simpler. 1.4 hrs = 1hour and 24 min. so then mutliply it by the labor rate to get the price 1.4x60.00=$84.00and then sales tax.
btw. if it takes me 2 min or 5 hrs to do the exhaust i still make 1.4 hrs!
think before you post!

people are telling me i got ripped off. saying:

1-i was supposed to get a FREE muffler (which i didnt)

2-i paid too much

but damn,if i got ripped off on price i cant do much. she wasnt able to make it up the block. i mean the WHOLE thing was on the floor and all the exhaust was blasting into the car FULL power while she was idling. 725 for the A pipe and the pipe from the convertor to the back. they said my convertor is saved because i made it on time. that **** was wearing down too

A free muffler as in:

"We're gonna give you a free muffler as an adjustment to the price of the job"?
or
"We're gonna give you a free muffler b'cuz we're running a promotion 2day"?
or
"We'll replace this muffler "free" if it should crap out during the life of the car"?

...and the labor charge? Did it include unanticipated time to remove (without damaging) Bit's, pieces and replace broken/stripped studs?

I've learned that in MOST (not all) cases; when a customer relates being 'ripped off', it's usually because his service writter didn't take the time to explain why things happened (either before OR after the repairs).

Then again; in a large metropolitan area these problems do arise.

Considering the time constraints you were under, you did what you had to do. Each situation is unique, and sometimes you don't have the luxury of Procuring the parts, scheduling the work and shopping for Labor Rates.

P

Actually, IF you had elected to have Honda do it, it would have been 681.53 in parts (A-pipe 329.72, B-pipe 113.37 and Muffler 150.00), 97.50 for Flat Time Labor (1.5hr x 65.00/hr), 36.00 in Tax, 10.00 in Shop Materials) This totals $825.03 without considerations for the extra labor to address frozen bolts, broken studs and "saving" your converter.

Don't feel so bad about it now, Huh?

^damn lol

the price was right on the nose when you first estimated it for me. the pipe from the convertor to the muffler was around 200 something. the A pipe was about 400+ so thats already about 600+ then labor. it took about two hours or so. their labor rate is 54 an hr.

but yes i couldnt spend time shopping for pieces myself. nor driving to different shops to compare prices. its not like they can see the problem over the phone anyway.

thanks P
