Lock Tampered With, Exposed - A Danger?
Hiya. I have a 1990 Accord LX. When I approached the car this morning, I notice someone seriously tampered with the passenger-side lock. They managed to pry out the outter-metal of the key hole, leaving the lock entirely void (like looking into a hole). From there it appears they began to file away, or at least make somewhat of a mess with the lock's innards. Additionally, they attempted to pry open the surrounding mould that houses the entire lock, leaving it somewhat loose.
I'm wondering: is this a direct danger? I intend to have the entire thing replaced and re-matched with my keys, but I wonder if having the lock exposed in such a condition will tempt other would-be lock pickers?
If anyone has any knowledge regarding this, it would be much appreciated. I have a 3rd party alarm system installed with key-less entry, so the door unlocks easy enough otherwise.
Thanks,
-B

I seriously believe they weren't practicing by Picking your lock. I suspect there was something in the car they wanted. (Radio, Amp, Cd library?).
I would suggest that you remove whatever temptations there may be until you can get the locks changed.
If you plan to keep the car for awhile, I'd suggest a good alarm system.
Seems you've got what someone else wants.

well, that's the thing: there was absolutely nothing in the car. no face plate, a CLUB on the wheel, etc. i suspect they wanted to steal the entire car. my question is moreso: with the lock in its current condition, could someone gain entry by filing and/or picking it?
Probably, but they were probably amatures. Someone who really wanted to take your whole car wouldn't have taken the time to futz around with the lock.
They would have either
a) Taken an ice pick, blown a hole thru the door panel adjacent to the lock and flipped the lever inside.
b) Broken the rear door quarter glass, reached in and unlocked the car.
It would take them all of 3-5 minutes from that point to have it out of the parking lot.
