a full time welding shop, guy has been a self employed welder for 40 years now and owns 3 old syncrowave 300's that weld 45 hours a week, he has had them since new 20 years ago. i do subcontract machining for them and know the old man does excellent work. he bought a modern dynasty 300 DX, his only invertor machine, and claims its junk, cant stand up to their workload (which is mostly 3/16 or less actually) and shuts down frequently.
he bitched about it not welding that good either but i think he just never took the time to understand the digital settings in that regard. anyways, the "board went" on it and cost him $3,000 out of pocket to fix. i really couldnt believe any of it, i thought they were great machines.
anyone else heard bad about dynasty 300dx's I was gonna start saving up for one.

I'm not really buying it. If something went wrong with a board, then why wasn't it warrantied? We had a circuit for the foot pedal on out 250 go out and it was replaced under warranty. I've used the dynasty 300, and it's by far the nicest welder i've ever used. I'd have one in my shop if I could afford it! I'll have to stick with my 250 for a while until i can swing the 300.
As for it not welding good, i'm sure it was a matter of him not understanding the settings and it not being setup right. The 20yr old machines are a little simpler than the new digital stuff. You know how those old timers are with new technology! lol

i believe it may have broken after the warrantee period, but you dont know how hard it was to keep my excitement to myself when i saw a dusty, neglected dynasty 300 with crap piled over it. ill surely make an offer before i try to convince the old man its a great machine. they bought new and hardly used it. id be surprised if it has 20 hours on it.
I have a 200dx , many people have smoked them because people tried using a balled tungsten. You are only supposed to use sharpen ceriated or lanathated tungstens and not ball them up. If you ball them up the machine has trouble starting the arc I suspect many people are doing this out of old habbits.I would assume that is the case on the 300 dx inverter aswell but I'm not sure. I bought mine used but I belive the inverters have a 3 year warrenty.
Edit: see whats broke before you buy it...because I do believe to repair the inverters is very expensive and might not be worth the toruble.
Edit 2 lol: Engloid uses a 300dx

the miller dynasty is my favorite welder at school. and if you cant ball the tungsten how do u weld on aluminum? at school they are teaching me to always ball the end of the tungsten.

i've had the dynasty 200dx since it first came out and it has never given my any problems. its probably 3 years old now.
my friend has the 300dx, and his is also working fine.

If you want proven reliability, go with a Syncrowave. If you want an awesome machine implementing new technology that blows Syncrowave technology out of the water, get the Dynasty.
I'm buying a Dynasty 200 DX at the begining of next year...by far the greatest machine we have in the shop @ school.

Not to be a necro poster, but this thread is very high in google searches while trying to solve issues with my Dynasty 200dx.
Inverters have been out about 6 years now, so most people have figured out there ins and outs.
Dynasty's are not the only inverters in millers line up anymore, maxstars even the new Diversion. Dynasty inverter conversion = diversion perhaps?
These machines are awesome, but LOTS of folks have trouble getting them out of balance so they dont weld worth a ****.
here is the low down on setup.
DC - if you are welding steel use this. this is for 3/32 thoriated tungsten
Start setting sub menu {hold main + process while turning on machine}
E-, 10-20a, 3-5ms.
AC - if you are welding aluminium use this.
Start settings sub menu
E+ {EP}, 40a, 40ms.
Heat/Balance/Waveshape - 1/8th alu.
130a, 70 balance, 120hz.
USE LANTHIATED TUNGSTEN!!!! or ceriated. thoriated will spit into the weld, green will ball and is NOT to be used with this machine....EVER!!!!
If you have one of the newer Blue Lightning Models here are the sub menu settings, as there is an extra row of settings in the menu.. also if using the blue lightning make sure you SET TUNGSTEN SIZE in the machine everytime you change tungsten size. it is set in decimal form.
Blue lightning sub menu settings.
AC for 3/32 tung 120 amps for 20 ms and E+ with a slope of 10 ms
The DC setting is 60 amps for 1 ms with a 40 ms slope.
Above settings are courtesy of KB Fab.
a Quick look at ac balance. courtesy of the boys in blue.
Syncrowave technology allows fine tuning the duration of the EN portion of the AC cycle from 45 to 68 percent. In other words, you are spending 68 percent of the AC cycle (which is 1/60th of a second) putting energy into the work piece. Inverter-based TIG welders, such as the Dynasty™, extend balance control even further, allowing EN duration times from 30 to 99 percent.
Syncrowave balance control goes from 1-10. 1 = 45% EN {max cleaning} to 68% EN {max penetration.}
Dynasty are adjustable from 30-99% EN. So if you are used to welding with a syncrowave with the balance maxed out on ten {like most of us}, then you pick up a dynasty and set it the same...boy will it weld like ****!!!!
Remember maxed on a syncrowave is only 68% EN, as where the numbers on the screen of a Dynasty accurately represent the percentage.
In most cases a factory Reset of the machine will fix all the issues
That is all for now, i hope someone gets a little use from this. I work with transformer tigs, but own a dynasty i use oh so rarely. Switching back and forth between the two can be a real nightmare if i forget these little tricks.
Especially... NEVER USE GREEN TUNGSTEN!

Lol, inverters have only been out for 6 years? The first inverter machine I ever used was made in 1991. I think my 300dx is about 8 years old now, never skipped a beat, and its used for production.
6-7 years on our first couple 300dxs and never had a prob. 300s are so old school now. I have welders in their early 20s working here that have never used a transformer welder!
