Painting trunk area?
Hey...
I painted my trunk over the last week.
I cleaned it and degreased it, then i sanded it with 220grit to take the clear off. I then went over the whole rear area with tack clothes.
I used all Tremclad products. I primered it, 2 coats. Followed instructions let 72 hours to dry. Then painted it with Tremclad rust paint.. 2 coats, 72 hours to dry.
It all looked good, then i went to clear it.. used tremclad clear coat.
Started spraying and then the paint started bubbling and now its all this bubbly goo.. You touch it with your finger and the primer and paint just slide right off.
Why did this happen? It seems like the clear coat ruined the paint.
Such a pain in the ***.. Cost me like $30 for paint.. and a few hours to do it plus i couldnt drive my car for a week.
I think im just going to put the rear interior back in and forget about this ****.
Thanks

my only guess, and its just a guess. Is that your degreaser might have been left behind enough to cause a reaction with the paint and primer. I tend to always go over the area I am going to shoot with 99.9 Isopropyl alcohol after all the cleaning and sanding is done just to help mop up any chemicals I used it the cleaning process. Again, this is just a guess as I have never used Tremclad's products.

Good guess... I think the same thing. I used to work at a body shop and this is one of the first things i was taught when in the booth. Always use a good prep solution after cleaning with degreasers. Then, go over it 5 more times to be safe.
Best thing i can suggest is just to sand it all back down and start over...
Good Luck.

damn right it is..
Thanks. I might just put my interior back in.. I do have it all in mint shape. Just wanted to see what the gutted feeling was like without having the back all scratched up.
Thanks.. But why did it look perfect untill i sprayed the clear?

There are other options other than Rhino Liner...i just gave that as an example.
There are coverings out there that are alot "lighter" than the rhino. The stuff the bodyshop shot into my hatch area is no thicker than regular paint but has alot of protective and rust inhibitor qualities to it.
