Default is Midas trying to screw me over?

Ok here is the story...
the connection between my exaust pipe and my muffler has rusted out, and now the pipe hangs freely from the muffler.
I called midas to ask if they could get that welded, they said you cannot weld that kind of thing, the weld will just burn right through the rusted/rotted metal. He says i need to buy a whole new muffler/pipe combo.

Are they trying to screw me or is this somthing a friend of mine with a welder can fix by himself?

The midas guy said this is also somthing that eventually happens to all stock civic exausts.

Rusted/Rotted Metal? This would be an obvious clue that it needs to be replaced.
Get a new muffler!!

It happened to mine to. You cant weld that spot because there is nothing to weld to. There not trying to screw you its just a fact. Did you look at the piece hanging down? I would think by looking at you might see there is no way to fix it.

its not that bad!
I dont care about making power i just want somthing that wont rattle and costs as little money as possible.
Plus my parents wouldnt pay for anything like that

I can jimmy the pipe into the muffler and it stays for a little while, but of course its not a seal. Thats why i thought about welding it back, because it does fit inside of the muffler somewhat

Who cares. It's an exhaust. Nothing bad is going to happen if you don't replace it. Why do your parents have to pay for it? Why can't you take some responsibility and pay for your car?

i I would rather have my parents pay for it if they offer. I already bought the car with my money, i buy everything else with my money so who cares if they pay for one little thing?
I'm not some kind of spoiled brat, my parents pay for some things and i pay for alot of other things.

Buy a used muffler in a junkyard, or even better buy a Ebay muffler untill you can afford something nice. Doesnt sound like you want this car since your not willing to deal with it when **** goes south. I was saving up to buy a Helms manual to use to change the clutch and timing belt. I could normally afford it but like to have some extra money left over just in case **** happens. So today I had to buy a new cell phone because mine cant be fixed. Took everything out of my bank .Well thats life and you gotta learn to get by somehow. Im not trying to be a dick, thats just how it is.
