Default What the hell is this??? w/pic

I was under the car today fixing something and I noticed this hanging behind the engine underneath the IM....

The motor is a 97 ITR

Side Note: I dont think the IM is from an ITR (something im just not sure of "looks small" is what others tell me)
Car was just tuned and had no problems

That would be an Intake Air Temperature sensor. In an ITR manifold it sits in that enlarged place on the runner for cylinder #1. Show us pics of the entire manifold please.

From what I can tell in the first pic it looks like a 99-00 Si intake manifold, I just want to verify.

With the stock ecu, it will take readings from that sensor and adjust fuel.... depending on your tuning equipment choice... you can either leave it... or should install it in the manifold (get something different).

tuning software used?

Crome has IAT correction... that sensor needs to be installed properly (normal format is in the runner on the manifold.... i'd fix it). Find yourself an AEBS or Skunk2 or ITR manifold and go from there. I prefer the AEBS because its dirt cheap and works.

The 99-00 Si doesn't have a place for the IAT on the manifold, instead it's installed in the intake tube. Drill a couple of holes and screw it in there.

Is the intake arm installed sensor the same as the manifold installed sensor? I'd think that the proper install location would be the OEM location for that sensor/harness. ie: manifold.

I had a black gsr/b16 valve cover, he swapped his ITR one with me and I stripped the paint off the ITR one

Previous owner wasnt too bright, and thought it made more power than an ITR IM, the things you read on Honda-Tech...

Well, it's not like the air goes through any drastic temperature changes from the intake arm to the manifold. Ideally, the owner would just buy an ITR manifold and be done with it.

well that depends on what you consider to be "drastic"

afterall, i'm sure youve felt the difference in temperature between the intake ARM and intake MANIFOLD...sure this is mainly because the manifold is ALUMINUM (not to mention attached to the head) therefore having more capacity for heat soak, but in turn this would lead to higher air temps in the runners vs in the arm.

thats part of the whole appeal of the A.I.R. CF intake manifold, hondata heatshield, etc

but back on topic...
SICK obvious BOY i have a bare ITR intake manifold for sale
PM me if youre interested.
