Default bent valves?

I've searched and have an idea that my valves might be bent, need some other opinions tho. My car's been sputtering sense I got it, and a couple weeks ago I put a new fuel filter on it and that fixed it. The other day I took it up to 7k a couple times and the car starting sputtering again. When I would pull out the car would almost die, and the car seemed alot louder, especially when I was driving it home on the interstate. It has oil in it, and it was'nt over heating. Now ive drove it again sense then, and it will idle werid sometimes, droping 1-200 rpms and then going back to 900 and going back down. After the car's warmed up it'll drive fine for awhile then it'll start acting up. I dont know if its something wrong with the fuel system, bent valves or what. The car does'nt smoke tho so I dont really know what it could be. Tommorrow im going to try and buy a compression checker and check the compression on it. Anyone have any other ideas?

Check your cam timing in relation to your crank. When my cam gears were out of time with my crank, the noise was incredible and it ran alittle weaker. I was off about a half inch on the crank.
