No RSX R for North America...
I just got back from Acura dealer and talked to the manager who just got back from the annual Honda meeting at Quebec city. He told me that he asked the president of HONDA Japan for the upcoming new for Type R and he said no plan for the R in couple of years and not even the Civic R.. The only thing which is coming is the 6 Speed manual 3.2 Type S... He said the car is coming in a month,,... SAD
Yeah, let's all believe something we heard on the internet, from someone who heard it from someone, who heard it from someone who claims to have gone right to the source. It has been printed in every major mag that the car is coming here...and think about it...why wouldn't it? look at how hot the DC2R is.

Well Honda coming out with new SUV called the Honda Pilot. But not much in the cars area nothing close to production. Normally if the DC5 R comes here I'm sure overseas markets will know before hand as this was same when the new DC2 R came about. Also if the CTR was ever to come here the UK folks would know firstly since the Si is built there along side the CTR for UK and Japan.
The Acura Dealers thought the s2000 was going to be an Acura, too. You`d be surprised how hush hush Honda can be. IMO, it`s coming...

Jesus........
who in their right mind is actually going to buy the fact that an Acura Showroom manager had a conversation with the President of Honda.
Dealers are always the last to know everything.
I worked at a relatively large Honda/Suzuki/Yamaha dealer and the magazines were always in the know months prior to the dealers. The only time they will know anything is when it shows up on their order sheet or if Honda wants to train them on servicing new cars.
I would trust a car salesperson as far as I could throw him.........let alone one who has lasted long enough to be a "manager"

you can guarantee the the RSX-R will be here in NA. Acura and Honda both know that there a large ITR following over here. WHen it does come out, wonder how many traded in ITRs will be available?
It don't bother me at all, so I don't really care.
My GS-R is my first FF and I am not too pleased with it. I know the ITR is better but it is still FF.
With all these new FR, 4WD vehicles arriving in the US, the RSX-R better come quick.

Vtecvoodoo: Ahh, I too remember when we were told the S2000 was going to be ours,...then the decision makers decided since we had the NSX and since it was Hondas 50th(?) anniversary, they would get it. Bastards! lol
anyways... for everyone else, I know you all hate hearing people tell you "well I heard from my district rep, or my manager at Acura said he heard that....all that stuff....but for real, Im going to Las Vegas March 25-27 for the 2002 Acura Spring Business Meeting. Richard Colliver will be there along with all the head honchos, a lot of designers, planners, concept cars...the whole nine yards. We have 2 days of meetings along with plenty of down time for lunches, dinners etc. I plan to ask plenty of questions. I hope to get defante answers...and YES These WILL be the people who will know!

I hate to break it to everyone, but we will not know if the R is coming until we know the R is coming. That is to say, when there is an official anouncement from Honda/Acura.
It is in the best interest of Honda to keep this information under wraps until it is within the consumers buying horizon(when it makes sense to start marketing the product). They obviously do not want Toyota, Ford, Subaru, Mitsubishi or any other competitor to have a heads up on their strategic plans.
Unless you are a corporate employee of Honda\Acura............you are just spreading rumors..........and if you are you better hope your boss is not watching.

Cos: you buy a plane ticket and come on out. You cant attend the meetings of course but when they are over we can hang out and gamble!
Im not a corporate employee, I work for a dealer, but these meetings are for just that, to let us know whats coming out, what to get ready for, what to start pushing...I seriously doubt they arent going to tell us something in worry that we will tell all these people and other manufacturers will find out. Hell I would think if nothing else, telling us whats coming out will help build anticipation for us and to whom we tell to get them ready for the upcoming cars rather then have them buy competeing models.
But I could be wrong , they might not tell us the RSX-R is coming. But either way Ill know March 25th, plus get to meet all the big wigs and stay in Vegas for a few days! Oh and Martin Short is the entertainment on Tuesday! Pretty cool I think.....touch me touch me!

Let's look at it like this:
In 1997: the R flew off the showrooms because of high demand and raceteams grabbing them up. There was even a dealer markup.
1998: R was still hard to find in a lot of places, and those who missed out in 97 got a 98 on the waiting list.
1999: no R for America
2000: Everyone said that they wanted one and a few paid a little over invoice the fall of 1999, but later on, they became easy to find outside of California. When I bought mine, I had two to pick from and another was coming in on a truck in a week.
2001: Every riceboy who had the $$ got a type R. Matter of fact, they were throwing all kinds of lease specials out on these cars to move them in almost every market.
Now, Why would Honda of Japan bring over a car that makes 15-20 HP more than an already good RSX-S? Let's face it...the GSR sucked in stock form and the R was all over it. Now, there isn't as much spread between the S and the R (at least not on NA shores there won't be).
The only thing we can hope for is that the WRX, STi and other tuner cars sell like hotcakes and Honda sees a need to import the car offsetting the extra cost to produce. I highly doubt we'd see the Civic R because it would be faster and the same price as the RSX-S and probably kill those sales. However, there is no more Prelude, so who knows what Honda will do with our market.
Americans demand more luxury for their money. This is why a stripped down R version is a rarity, because it will be just as much money for "less," so to speak.
Just my opinion, but if you look at it from a marketing standpoint, it makes sense. Plus, their philosophy is to bring over a blank "slate" for the american market. Those who leave it stock have a good mild car. Those who fix it up have a good platform to work on. It's a win-win situation for Honda, but it will deprive .0001% of the population the good JDM stuff. When your mom, aunt, uncle and brother-in-law all want an RSX-R instead of an Accord, then you'll see the car here.
i'l wait till next month and see posts about the RSX-R wil be in the US. then a week later it won't be, then it will be, and so on.
when i see a commercial for it or actually read a honda/acura press release i'll trust it. until then i don't care
