Default Remote Start does not work in the morning/engine is cold

I had a PRESTIGE APS996A alarm with remote start installed on my 00 si for about 2 months. Everything worked fine until last week when I remote started my car in the morning (~8 am). The engine starts, runs for about 2-3 seconds then shuts off. Try to remote start a couple more times, still the same. Does anyone has any idea what may go wrong?? Appreciate for any input!!

P.S. When the engine is hot, the remote start works like heaven. If the car sits for about 4 hrs, same problem happens if I remote start the car.

Relearn your tach signal. If it's not hooked up, hook it up and program it.

Or bring it back to where you had it installed and have them do the above stuff.

The unit has a diagnostics feature, when turned on the park lights will flash back 1 to 7 times and tell you why the system shut down. http://www.audiovox.com/webapp...brand= 94

Re-ground it in the kick panel scrape the paint and use a star washer. I have had this happen multiple times by other installers in my shop and every time its due to a bad ground. When you use the metal under the dash as a ground, not only is it a secondary ground and should not be used any way, but i was told when its cold out the temature acctually increases the resistance in the metal. I was told they sometimes make them out of some alloy metals that dont ground well. I dont know how true this is but the one thing I can say is every time i came across this problem regrounding in the kick panel fixed it.

It might be using voltage check and not tach. Either way you might just need to extend the cranktime. Bring it to that shop, should be an easy fix for them.

BTW I think it's, the colder it is, the less resistance there is.

2000civicsi have you found out what the diagnostic shut down flash back was? 94

O ok i didn't realize it was starting. Sounds like an issue with tach learn or possibly it is on volatge check and needs to be on tach learn since I have had a few problems with cars using voltage check that just wouldn't work properly till I tached them.

It would be a lot easier if 2000civicsi would tell us what the shut down parking light flash back was. 94

i got the flash back result, finally. I didn't realize that feature is default OFF until i read the whole thing. It flashed 6 times which indicates the reason for the last remote start shutdown is High tach signal (RPM). I believe the installer programmed the tach when the engine was warm (750 rpm), and that's why i got this result when i started the car in the morning (my car has cold fast idle problem, revs up to 1500 rpm). So i just programmed the tach when the engine is cold (1500 rpm). I will see what happen tmr morning. thanks guys

Alright...... and thanks for letting us know what you found, all info helps, so when the next one has that problem and they search, they may find this, and if you let us know if it fixes the problem, they can also check for high RPM shutdown. 94

He might run into a problem trying to teach the tach, The tach won't learn high revs. It learns the signal. not how high it goes. He would be better to switch it to 12 volt pick up. I had this problem on theses cars before installing the rs3.5. If that does not work switch to 12 volts. Desmon-Precisionmobilesoundwerks.

god damn it. the remote start works but it raises another big problem. and i don't know if both are related. After appro. 4 mins of running, the alarm went off and it wouldn't stop . I turned the siren off, and it went off right after. And I was not able to unlock the door or stop the remote starting either. So I opened the door (car is still armed) with my key and depressed the brake, so the remote starting shut off, then i disarmed the siren. My guess is the shock sensor was set off during remote starting, probably vibration. Does that mean i can only remote start my car when disarmed?? that's not very safe, isn't it.

My advise is ditch the prestige and get a DEI product, I have only installed a few so Im not to familiar with them but the shock sensor should get bypassed upon remote start. So Im sure your problem lies somewhere else, where Im not sure but good luck!

I agree with MLD211 about the shock sen., I don't know of any alarm/remote start combo unit that you can't start with the alarm armed, and not being able to shut the alarm or remote start down with the remote is also not right, it sounds more like the panic mode is triggered rather then the alarm , owners manual features....

"New enhanced panic feature ( any button other then unlock stops siren, no change to the units status) also to "disarm" panic mode , [when triggered] hold lock/unlock button for more then 3 sec. Try it to see if it's panic that is being triggered.

The other thing I would try if you have not already, is waiting a few sec. after it triggers before trying to disarm, most 2way alarm/alarm remote starts can't receive a signal, [disarm] while sending one, [alarm trips it sends a signal to your remote telling you the alarm has tripped and what tripped it] the above does not solve the problem of why it's going off when running by remote, but may tell us what is triggering, [alarm or panic] and what is triggering it if it's the alarm. 94

I tested it armed and unarmed. It was the alarm that went off when armed, nothing happened when disarmed. And the LCD monitor indicated the "IMPACT" was from the front. So It was the vibration that tirgger the shock sensor. This is retard coz I need to remote start my car unarmed. Any1 have any idea?
P.S. The unit was working fine (everything) for 2 months after i installed it. How possible could the unit turned bad all the sudden???

What if you disarm, remote start, then re-arm? Does it still go off?

One more thing, have you added any other sensors to the alarm? 94

FCM brings up a good point, The ignition wire, usually there are a few. 1 or 2 out put 12v for remote start and then usually there is a 3rd thin guage yellow wire that is an input directly to the brain, if that wire wasnt connected properly or at all it would definalty cause your alarm to trigger when remote started. Do you have ignition controled door locks? do they work? If so then thats probly not the case because that is the same wire that controlls you ignition controlled door locks
