Default AEM cold air vs. AEM cold air V2!!!

I've heard alot of complaints from people who have had the v2 cold air from aem. they say that there getting a loss of power compared to the original. Anyone heard anything about this? I'm planning on getting one and I don't know which way to go.

Research a little bit. You'll find that a good ol' ebay short ram with a quality filter is all you need.

With the money you save from a AEM intake, you can lower your car.

That's odd.. I've heard the exact opposite about the v2, and that they actually have a more noticeable power improvement. But as far as just normal intakes go (no specialty stuff like the v2), either go on ebay and pick one up, or go to your local exhaust shop if it's a good shop and they can bend some 3" piping for you for a lot cheaper... and hell you can go on ebay, get an AEM sticker, and no one will know any better.

that's odd because I think you're the one who's mixed up. I've got a AEM CAI transformed SRI but now I'm going to just do the exhaust shop thing with 3" pipe because my SRI is only 2.75". Hell, if it will fit under the hood.... 3.5"

it's as simple as this...

CAI= better low end power
SRI= better High end power
V2= Same as CAI but with less power.

If you like to drag = SRI
If you like to move quicker in traffic without puching the hell out of it = CAI

Depends what is more important to you.

Noob

A CAI will give better top end better than a SRI but you may or may not lose some low end. With a V2 you may lose even more low end power since the pipe is bigger. I only see the V2 being an advantage if any at all at high rpms. Get the AEM CAI or SRI if you need the CARB certification like we do here in cali

Why would you use a SRI in drags and CAI in the street? I do this on my turbo GTI because at the drag i want the air to travel a small amount and as fast as possible. Sure i can use the CAI and draw in colder air but it will take longer to travel. My car will turbo and intercooler will heat and compress air anyways.

I love my CAI on the highway though.

Thanks for the tips on the differences between SRI and CAI everyone. I live in hot *** AZ and at the moment i'm just looking for a little extra power while driving to school and work. Most of my time driving is spent on the freeway anyways and I plan to boost my car in in a few months once I have everything in line. Cold Air is the way i'm thinking right now.

It all depends on if your motor has more torque like an LS or more top end like a motor with VTEC. I have an LSVTEC and my short ram works excellent. If your running an LS you'll be better off with a cold air. I would go with the original design if i was getting a cold air. I personally think the V2's look dumb anyway

If your planning on boosting soon I'm going to have to say I'd definately go EBay on getting an intake, not the AEM system. The main reason being that they are more expensive and all, and I'm going to have to say strongly that that slightly expensive AEM CAI isn't going to fit with your turbo once thats on, so it's definately not worth it, and if it did fit, the air gets heated back up pretty quickly once it makes its way through the turbo anyways, so if you really feel the need, go EBay one. Reflecting on that, that is a huge run-on sentance and I apologize if it doesn't help or make sence.

AEM V2 has greater sound, better power, and when i switched from my CAI to V2 i pulled cars on a car that was side by side with me. now im back to cold air though. bypass valve and $$ makes me do that
