whirring or rattling noise from tranny
'00 SI, 73k on the clock .. Exedy organic, stock flywheel, JRSC etc...
Car has been making a rattling or whirring noise from the tranny lately and it's seeming to get louder.. It's really loud under deceleration and when I give it a little bit of gas it goes away and then comes back when I let off the gas.. It also goes away when I push the clutch in. I have replaced the throwout and pilot bearing but that didn't help.
I am getting ready to buy a new clutch and flywheel but I don't want to go through the hassle of putting it all back in and finding out this is an internal problem to the tranny.. I have bought a new ISB but haven't replaced it yet. Could this be the problem.. ?
Any input is greatly appreciated.

Just a suggestion... While you have the Tranny out, just break it down and check check it out.
You could have a host of problems according to your description, but without physically checking, it is hard to diagnose.

Ok.. I noticed this morning that when I have my car sitting still and the clutch is not engaged I hear this whirring noise and when I push the clutch in the noise slowly comes to a stop.
I am doing a search on it because I remember reading about it somewhere.. but if anyone knows let me know..

Never mind, just read that you replaced the throwout bearing, sorry about that

have a buddy listen to the end of the transmission and you engadge and ddisengadge the clutch as he listen if the noise is in there. and its 9 times out of 10 the imputshaft bearing.

my GSR does the same thing. When I press the clutch, the sound goes away. it comes back when I release it.
I took it to Corner3, had it tested by having them drive and listen, and it's the bearing, possibly more. didn't want ot risk it so I rented this:

In the meantime, I am looking for an ITR tranny, or rebuild, which ever is cheaper. I might go with GearSpeed if the price is right or just breakdown and buy a new tranny from Acura if I can. That should last me for another 91000 miles
Diagnosis: the bearing inside the transmission
Corner3 will tear it down after I decide on what the plan of action will be.

mine is doing the same thing it is the input shaft bearing and if you let it go for to long then you will start to have alot of gear noise and after that even if you do replace the bearing you will have the ggear noise still....new tranny is gonna fix my problem
