Default Opinions on Lincoln Weldpak 100

There is a classified ad for a Lincoln Weldpak 100. This is what is included in the ad.

Lincoln Mig welder, Weldpak 100, 110V, 20 Amp., like new condition Used for my own small jobs.
Uses flux core or solid wire .035 max.
small/quick jobs can be run on a reg. 15 Amp circut.

comes with;
1) Gas kit
2) commercial 2 stage regulator (I have the orig. gas kit reg., it bites)
3) 56 cu. ft. tank "SS pulse" (for welding stainless steel)
4) 56 cu. ft. tank CO2 (for reg. steel/metals)

I was wondering if this would be an OK welder to do exhaust work and maybe some body work. I can get the whole setup for $325. Any opinions, comments would be greatly appreciated.

and that is one hell of a good price...I got a new weldpak 3200hg yesterday for 400 but I am still tankless. Two tanks are ALOT, I'd ****** that up with a big smile!!

Any other comments on this welder? I am picking it up tomorrow afternoon. Will I be able to weld pipes on to flanges? I think it says it can weld up to 1/4"

im bumping cause i have this welder and had some questions.

Im getting pretty good at welding with this welder, only using flux core though, no mig adapter. So is it worth it to upgrade to gas(mig) with this kit, which costs around $100 before the tank, or should i sell and upgrade to a better welder.

My goals are i would like to weld turbo manifolds(just for me) and possibly somewhat structural things on a crx, up to 1/4 in mild, and frame rails and such. oh and the abality to do a cage is a huge plus. Will this work well in these situations? i don't plan on welding really any AL or SS, just mild steel, oh no chromoly either, or gold... no gold welding for me.

so how will this welder handle these things when upgraded to use gas?

Thanks HT!

I have done a crap load of **** with this welder. I have always had the gas kit though. As for doing manifolds so long as you dont care about the blings looks I dont see what you couldnt punch out a MS SCH40 Log mani with any issues. I added a wastegate onto a manifold for a friend with this machine and he is still rocking it I just braced it too prevent cracking.

I've also got the same little mig, I've abused it for probably 7 years now and it keeps on keeping on.

Does anyone have any thoughts on cages with this welder? i have one NO so far, just looking for more opinions.

I have one of those things lol. I think its about 6 or 7 yrs old. Only trusty Lincoln I've ever owned.

Yes it will do what you want to do.

If you are inclined to weld 1/4 with it I highly suggest you weld it with teh flux core or dual shield it. Google "dual shield welding" if you don't know what that means. Its the best way to get max penetration with that little bastard.

For cage plates, its just fine. For actually bars, I wouldn't do anything but tig on those.

Is it a penetration issue? Or does it get too hot on the tubing causing it to weaken?

Sorry, i have been welding for a while, its just my instructor is kinda a dumass(i taught myself hah).

I just would never mig a cage, thats just me. For safety issues, and since people are putting there lives in my hand, I will tig them.

i have the hd100, but im still gasless.

its worked perfect for anything ive used it for so far. done a few exhausts, some intercooler piping some body work and some other stuff around the house. i just welded my tow hooks back to my chassis because the bolts stripped. had to turn the voltage up to c (it goes a-c) and that was about a 1/4 inch plate, so much thicker than that and i think you'd be pushing it with this welder

i agree with RCautoworks
beware of welding something structural with this mig welder

its possible to get a good looking weld on the outside,
but underneath it doesn't tie in enough
try cutting a sample piece to see what im talking about

Stand it up and weld it vertical up. Its 100times easier to get penetration into the root with how few amps this welder is capable of.

But I do agree for the most part. It would be better with a cored wire running a shielding gas as well.

I've welded 16ga stainless tube to 16ga stainless sheet with that machine...w/o gas And w/o an auto-dark helmet (that was the worst part).

Good for the price, even better since it comes with the gas kit. Great hobby welder due to being 120v also.
