Default Deck still works but wont read ANY CD's.....

I have an Eclipe 3434 in my Teg. I havent had it for more than 2 years and yesterday in the middle of the day it stopped reading all my cds. Everything else works fine so i reset the damn thing to see if it just needed a fresh start, but same thing happened. I checked the manual at home to try and troubleshoot the problem, but i was unable to find any information to help out. If anyone has had this problem before or knows how to fix it let me know what to do.

Thanks in advance

Seems kindof weird that it would stop all of the sudden, and not read any cd's... But I guess it's possible... You could pop the deck out, open it up, and clean the lens (VERY gently) with a q-tip and some alcohol and see what happens...

If it's under warranty, then you shouldn't be on here asking how to fix it; you should be calling the manufacturer and getting it fixed under that warranty.

And yes, I have cleaned lenses that way several times. You need to be VERY VERY light handed when you do it...

yeah i already know to call if its under warranty.... common sense right but if you read correctly i have had it for almost 2 years and if you are familiar with Eclipse you would know that its only covered under manufacturers warranty for only a year. guess it all up to the laser lens cleaner or im taking that bad boy apart...

Then why the hell did you ask if cleaning the lens that way would void your warranty?

Unless there are "telltales" of some kind, [something that would let a tech. know if the HU has been opened, tape with warranty void if broken or something] then go ahead an pop the lid and try and clean it, [try a lens cleaner a few times first]
That said, if the lens is misaligned, just cleaning isn't going to help.
Here in town there is not one repair shop that will not take an off warranty or on warranty for that matter, and do a service, [cleaning and lens realignment] on a HU if you are willing to pay them, if it's been opened or not. 94

I hate those bastards....

Seriously though, like fcm said, I don't know of many shops that won't take your money... I say, crack that beeyotch open, try cleaning the lens, and if that doesn't work, then put it all back together nice nice and take it to the shop for repair.

But keep in mind that a repair by a reputable shop will run you ~$75 for labor, plus parts. I know the major shop around here has a flat labor rate of $85...

Depending on what's wrong, and what model you have, it could be cheaper to buy a new deck...

If you bought that radio new, and the place you bought it from installed it, that will still be under warranty. That radio isn't more that 2 years old.

Just take it in and bitch, and have fun waiting for Eclipse to repair it and send it back to you. Unless it is less than a year old, you could get an advance exchange on it, and you will have a new radio in about 3 days. And if it is more than a year old, and the people at the place that you bought it from don't hate you, if it is close they might be able to get you an advance exchange anyway.

now let me tell you why that won't work... Eclipse only has a one year warranty for the deck and its obviously exceeded its coverage. The place I bought it from isn't obligated to do anything for me because they only cover against product defect in the first 30 days of your purchase. I am very familiar with their policy because I used to work for them. It really doesn't matter though because I figured out what was wrong with the deck. I decided to pull the deck out and try to clean the lense. After I removed the top panel from the deck I needed those really small screw heads to get to the lens, but I didn't have any. So, I hook the deck back up in the car and hold it outside the cage and load a cd( still with the top panel off). After I load the cd I noticed that the disc wasn't able to spin fast enough to read. It actually was just kind of "ticking" like the hand on a watch, but it couldn't spin. Half of the center-piece was exposed at this point so I gave it a little push into the right direction, and the piece of **** starts woring. I didn't see anything holding it up and it all looked clean so I put it all back together and locked it in the cage. Every now and then it starts acting up again, but I found that taking my foot off the gas and giving it a few kicks from the left usually gets it going. Thanks for all the input
