Stock ITR steering wheel removal
anyone have a guide?
I fear the airbags, and dont want to die!!!
Edit: Installed, just need to figure how to run the horn.. and still need to pull the passenger side airbag, and pull out the blub for the srs light in cluster.

lol, 2'nd time in a week someone has wanted one. I deleted all the pics in the one I did about 6 months ago.
The thing I remember having the most difficulty with was the harness connectors for the srs system. They are yellow, and iirc have a metal part that must be moved back before the clip will seperate. Everything else was straight forward,
edit: MAKE SURE YOU DISCONNECT THE NEGETIVE TERMINAL ON YOUR BATTERY

i just removed my stock steering wheel. was pretty easy.
Disconnect battery. i waited 10min. went to smoke a cig.
i removed the cover surrounding teh colum and unplugged teh yellow harness. goes to air bag.
on both sides of the wheel there are bolts, you have to remove the little cover things. the bolts are not reg ones, not hex but the other star shaped ones, T30 size. remove those. slide bag out. done.

Disconnect the battery (positive and neg) and kick back for at least 15 min I'd say, the Helm reccomends this as it allows the stored energy in the system to die off.
Theres two plastic covers on either side of the wheel, and one on the bottom. You can also separate the driver airbag wireing connection lower down on the colum if you like, but to remove the steering wheel you'll need to do the one on the bottom anyway. Remove the lower little cover (has a screw holding it on), pull the yellow clip out of the plastic holder, you pull one end of the yellow clip back and pull the other to release the clip.
The scary part is over
Now you need a special Torx bit, I got it in 3/8 drive socket, it should be Torx bit # "T-30". Those two covers on the sides of the wheel I mentioned, pop them off and you'll see the two Torx screws in there. Undo them then carefully remove the airbag. Disconnect the horn wires, and then youll see the big 19mm (I think) nut dead center that holds the wheel on the colum. Turn the wheel so the steering wheel lock engages and then undo the nut. The wheel will slide off towards you and you're done.
If I forgot anything chime in.

There was a diagram floating around for a while of a resistor and whatnot (similar to the 02 sensor fooler). Are you planning on keeping the passenger side is that why?

If you unplug that yellow plug, it also disconnects the ABS light too though. I just put a few layers of black electrical tape around the SRS bulb and then kept the plug connected so that I could know of any ABS problems.

You need a non srs horn set-up from like a crx. Search for it, this topic has came up a bunch. Somebody listed the part number, once you have the part its easy.
