That's kind of a tricky question!!

GReddy makes several kits that are "legal" in California.

If you add anything to the kit, it's no longer legal. That means you can't add an intercooler or blow off valve unless it is in the kit.

The other problem is that even though they provide a method for fuel enrichment, it may not allow the car to pass the sniffer. It's not legal to add a Hondata to tune the car. So, even if you are only using the Hondata to lower the emissions to the legal limit, it's not allowed.

The solution is to run the GReddy (or what I'd like to do and run a Jackson Racing unit) and use a Hondata S100. That unit is programable and still totally inside the ECU, so nobody would know.

wouldnt he run into an issue using a kit designed for the 92-95 motor on his 88-91 car? i believe that the kits are smog legal for only the model that they are intended for...
plus u would need to modify the intercooler piping in order for it to fit..

Dam, it has to suck to live in cali. I live in wisconsin and we get the sniffer test, but no visual inspection is done unless you fail 3 times... thank god I passed with my b16a turbo on my 3rd try or i'd be up **** creek.

Here is the problem I have with that, the base kit doesn't include an intercooler....so it would fit inside the CRX without modding any charge pipes.

I am running a d16z6 engine that the kit was designed for, so technically I am using the correct kit/engine combo just on a different chassis.

That complicates things. You would have to speak with a REF about that one. Also, would it clear the stock EF radiator and such?
