4G63 into crx
Hey all, I heard and saw pictures of a civic that had the mitsubishi 4G63T engine in it. Im planning to do a project of installing one into a 1990 JDM crx.. Im just wondering if anyone knows of this civic or any other crx's that have done the swap.
Been covered once a month for 3 years. Not real. Tranny on the wrong side, and if someone posts pictures, it was a mock up photo with nothing connected.
Turbo a honda motor.

The tranny is not on the wrong side untill the newer 4g63t's. I would reccomend doing one in a dodge colt. I did it was fun, check out 4g61t.com

I started the 4g63 in my 89 si this past week. That's right, I have this 4g in my 89 and I used a modified si harness and a jdm gvr4 ecu with my own homemade ecu clip over. I also had to fab my own mounnts and mounted the eclipse shifter assembly. Pics and how-to will be posted when I get home from CT for the holidays. I know its hard to believe and I also know that I've been talking to CRXgator about it for a while. I decided to do something different since my car was stripped on april 1st and they took my b18c5. ps, ryan from RyWire and I are thinking about making these wiring harnesses/ecu clip-overs soon....stay tuned. Questions email me at alex487@hotmail.com or AIM me at cptmoorgan.

alex and i will build the harnesses if people are interested. ive seen this swap in person and its pretty badass... there might be a way run a honda ecu id you can get the dizzy timing correct, if not you can use the eclipse ecu, as alex did.
When you guys say custom mounts, did you have to cut and reweld the stock chassis mounts? or could you have gotten away with leaving the stock chassis mounts in place had custom engine mounts been made available?

The 4g63 is cheaper, and I think he built it for under 1K or so... He had tons of parts laying around, thats why.

DSM have no dizzy. They run Coil packs, so I don't see that working too well. Just a little FYI, when I did my colt I basicly used an entire Eclipse harnes and put it in the car. Thats the way DSMers roll. It was nothing like doing a honda engine swap.

Alex is a very smart guy Bart... Last time I was at his place we were looking it over, and I believe it COULD be done. We had a cyclone IM running a honda iacv, and a honda TB using the tps and map sensors... The wiring is not the hard part, and the dizzy even fit in the cam shaft, but like I said the timing is a lil tricky. Let Alex chime in. The wiring for the dsm ecu is best done lik Alex has, there is a ecu jumper with subharness to run a few other sensors. This way you can use honda interior accessories.
And the harness will fit.

yes my friend has a hatch with a gst motor in it have seen it and drove it, it does exist and custom everything.
the only thing i didnt like is the axel angle outa the tranny. and the height off the ground for the tranny

What he says, but it has a optical cam pickup. To tell when the coilpacks should fire. Thats KINDA like a dizzy.
but To be honest, I wouldnt use anything honda on a Mitsu motor.
use the entire harness and go from there.

The goal used to be to utilize a honda ECU. I was looking at the inside of the DSM cam sensor and yes, it is an optical pickup. Originally I wanted to use that sensor, if I could to replicate the signals that a honda dist. would create. My main problem is the fact that I couldn't find any information onine about what kinda of signal the honda distributor produced versus the mitsu cam sensor. I know the mitsu one creates a square wave while the honda one creates more of a sin wave. I don't have access to an oscilliscope so I was hitting a dead end.
I wanted to utilize the DIS system as well but I realized that a honda ECU only has one ignition output (there is only one coil) whereas the DSM has 2 ignition output signals(2 coil design). This was another stumbling block for a good mechanic and decent automotive electrician however my skills in advanced engine management we're not handy.
All in all, I gave it a lot of thought and opted for an ECU clip-over so all my dash accessories and fuseboxes were utilized and the ECU would simply run the FI system. It took me the better part of a week after I got home from work every night to design and solder the entire thing but alas, I made one mistake concerning grounding the main relay(5 minutes later I fixed it) and I haven't had a CEL yet!
I've been wary of using those "old" mitsu ECUs because of the leaking capacitor deal however, I recently ordered a gvr4 one and it doesn't appear to have any problem.

ps, thanks for the support ryan
pps, the motor mounts I made utilize the stock positions for an EF. I made the mounts to bridge the gap/differences between honda and mitsu. When I get home next week I need to pull out the mounts and spray them all black so they don't rust so I'll take pictures.

to many turbo honda engines?? but your taking a MASS produced factory turbo engine from an eclipse talk about too many. lol I think theres still more 4g63t,s than turbo hondas lol
