you need to clarify....is this a hatch or is this an EX....it can't be both.

I'm assuming your 89 hatch is dpfi (2 injectors, throttle body facing up). I'm guessing you mean a 92+ EX motor. If so, you need to convert to OBD1/2 to use vtec properly, change some wires around, obviously convert wiring to use 4 injectors, switch to 4-wire o2 sensor, and change things on the harness. You can buy the motor, ecu, conversion harness (both for the ecu and for the engine - rywire.com/boomslang.us) all on the classifieds section.
I put a 1993 Civic EX motor in my 90 sedan, full conversion to obd1 ecu, did all the engine wiring myself (besides the boomslang ecu harness). I just rewired the engine harness, so the last thing I want to do is advise other on wiring it anytime soon. I can provide links if you ever want to do it.

See sig.
Also search "mpfi conversion" because I KNOW it's been covered.

I knew jack **** when I did my swap, and completed it in a weekend. Really anyone who can change a tire and changed oil can do it, it looks like a daunting task, but as long as you keep all your parts organized and have a decent set of tools you can do it.
An engine lift REALLY helps, don't listen to people who say you can get by without it.
I did mine for pretty much $1000. engine tranny and axles were $974 shipped, and I spent a little bit on oil-dry and a cheap jack and stands and chalks combo at CSK. Various other things might run up to another $50-75, as long as its nothing major (ex. I had to replace both axle seals, $4 a piece, plus oil, stuff like that)
I got my dohc zc swap from http://www.hmotorsonline.com , it's not listed as a complete swap there but if you call them, talk to Steve he will make sure you get taken care of.
If I would have had $2000 instead of $1000 I would have gone for the b16a swap. My dohc zc does pull though, so I'm happy.
p.m. me if you want more help.
