basically I just removed the front bumper removed the headlights
baked them one at a time in the oven at 200 degrees for 20 minutes and GENTLY pryed the holding tabs back and pulled the lense off letting the sealing goo lay evenly

painted what I wanted and removed the nasty amber makers internally(one screw)
re-assembled baked for another 20 minutes to warm the goo up then slide it together and re apply the holding tabs

Yes im bumping this ****. Since the OP hasnt been on in a few days I need to know how well people can see his turn signal bulbs without any amber reflectors, and painted all around the turn signal bulbs. Im sure he got amber bulbs, but does anyone have any input on this? I just did this, and didnt realize to keep some chrome in there, and I took out the reflectors. I bought some amber bulbs but havent had time to put em in yet. Does anyone know how well others can see them in the day time?

Yea, $500 for headlights doesnt compute for us broke people.LOL

One alternative thought from DIY is Ebay!!! although some people dont trust them
