The best year for an s2k
How you guys doing. I always dreamed of owning an s2k and now my dad finally wants to buy one for himself. so we are doing research out the pooper getting our knowledge up to date. My dad is one that looks a consumer reports and reads about everything. We were just wondering if there was an year that the s2k is better than the other. For example the 2000 is better than the 2001. Please let me know what you think and why that year is teh best.
i don't think it's a decision on a specific year but more of what model to compare with
if your choosing between the AP1(00-03) or the AP2(04-present) that should be what your looking into
if your choosing between the AP1(00-03) or the AP2(04-present) that should be what your looking into
go test drive both the ap1 and ap2, you should be able to come up with a decision from there.
On a side note, if you get an ap1, get an 02-03 so you get a glass rear window.
Good luck with your search

No real best year, but this sums up allot of the major differences:
00-03 AP1: 17-23K for one in good condition and low milage. 00-01 models have limited color choices, a slightly notchy tranny, and that infamous plastic window (as mentioned). 2.0L w/9K redline.
04-06 AP2: 24-32K (new). Different engine and more aggressive styling. 3 ring LED style tailights, leaner front grill, slightly more shoulder room, 17" rims. 2.2L w/8K redline, slight bump in torque (162 @ 6500 vs 154 @ 7500). 06 comes with different style wheels and drive by wire.
What to look for: Faded rear window (00-01), low quality aftermarket tires, damaged/faded soft top, excessive noise from the interior, whirring noise from the throw-out bearing, excessive wind noise from the soft top or window seams.

The best model year is the one you like the best. DUH. Go test drive it first than make your choice. dont rely on strangers on the internet for a 20,000 dollar purchase.

Searching through the one of hundreds of these same kind of threads would have yielded the same info that was posted. This same silly question has been asked so many times its funny, they should just sticky it up top with the answer..."They're both great."

I completely agree, but the search doesn't always get the results you want.
I ran this before I answered the above post:
