And the trickier part will be getting that C-clip back on when you go to put the cases back together. I used the C-clip pliers with one hand and slowly tightened the case bolts untill it brought the bearing up and the C-clip went around the bearing. Then I tighted all the case bolts, turned the tranny over, and lifted and bounced the tranny on some 2X4's untill I heard a pop. This causes the shaft and bearing to seat in the grove correctly. Kinda hard to describe and explain in words but maybe you can get a general idea. Worked like a charm tho. Good luck.
Oh, I just reread your post. Are you just removing the tranny or seperating the tranny case to get to the gears and shafts. If you are just removing your tranny from the block, maybe you missed one of the lower bolts on the back side. You don't have to remove the C-clip to pull the tranny from the block.
