just buy a hoist. you can find them for like 160 which is the cost of a few rentals. i have used mine many times, a must-have for someone who does their own engine work like this.

the hoist will cut down the work time to as much as half but u can definitely put the motor up without a hoist. my buddy and i did it but we didnt put the motor all together. we did the same way u did except the trans. so we put the short block and then the trans. its much easier

i do it from under neath like that, i just use a motor cycle jack because it holds the motor evenly, and its 10x's easier going through the bottome (like they were meant to be done)

I did the exact same thing. Those motorbike jacks come in handy.

You guys are making it too difficult. You unbolt everything, lay the engine on some tires and lift the car off the engine. So simple!

it's actually prettt easy and safe to drop the motor/tranny out from the bottom. I use a 4 wheel dolly and place it under the motor then lower the car over the dolly until the motor is sitting on the dolly. Bust your mounts loose then raise the car up, roll the motor out on the dolly.

I work in a bodyshop, when we need to pull the engine we put it on the lift and drop the whole engine, susp, ect. Takes us about 3 hours.

yeah, i don't know why you guys need jacks or motorcycle stuff. Too complicated. We just lower the car to the ground, unbolt it all and then jack the car up and slide the motor out. You can have it out in about an hour and half.

I do the same but I use a 4wheel dolly under the motor to roll it out.

yeah, that's even better and still simple. The 4 wheel dolly is really good for when you put the motor back in, you can move it around easy.

Looks like it worked! Don't try that with a domestic V8 for sure!

I usually use a forklift and lift a pallet up to the bottom of the engine, unbolt it, and drive away with it.

I go from the bottom with a creeper. Makes putting it in much easier than with a cherry picker from the top beacuse you have to angle it in due to the transmission
