Yeah... jumping the switch would tell you if the brake switch is bad.... but I think an easier test would be to see if it shifts from park. The interlock system - the thing that prevents you from shifting out of partk without pressing the brake - uses the brake switch too. If you can shift from park, the switch must be working.
If the switch is good... the failure could be in the brake light failure sensor. Ceck all the bulbs again - including the third brake bulb (in the back window) and let us know what you find.

they may sound stupid, but did you replace the bulbs already? If you did replace them , and they still didnt work , it is probably because you didnt put a double filament buld in the tail lights. If that were teh case, the bulbs would work when you hit the brake and not work when you turn on the lights, or vice versa.
Just thought I would add my 2 cents

Yea my brake lights dont work either, im guessing its the chip module behind the driver side taillight. Water got in it and rusted the points. Wonder how much they cost from the dealer?

Is it possible? Sure.... but pretty unlikely, the post didn't mention anything about not being able to get it in gear.

in all my yearas of troubleshooting i have learned never to assume anything ,,,that's when u get bitten in the butt .....especially when someone gives information about their problems in here i have found that a lot of time they are incomplete and say one thing when they mean another ...

accually if she puts it in gear she has to take the gear shift cover off and use her key to unlock the gear shifter. I did not even think about that earlier, did not think they would have been connected. And if it is the interlock switch how hard is that to replace, or the brake light swith. And where would they be located. Thanks again for the info

When you fix the brake pedal switch, it might fix both problems.

I'm having the same problem and I've gotta admit you guys know you're sh*t. I mean you knew about stuff that i was wondering about. I mean the cruise control, the shifting, the horn all of this is related. Not if you're guessing. You guys are too much! I'm definitely impressed at the quality of some of these posts!
