mechanical oil temp gauge installation
Theres a plug in the Cyl. Head near the passengers side above the Intake Manifold, not sure how far off it will be from Oil temps in the pan though.

Yes...
If you can find a sending unit that is built like a drain plug...
try the VDO web site. http://www.vdona.com/aftermarket/aftermarket.html

easy, you can use you stock drain plug, first drill a small hole thru thats for the sensor to stick out, then drill a bigger hole and tap it so the sensor can thread into it, also you can buy the drain plug with the hole already in it from Autometer or HKS.
"Did you say MECHANICAL OIL TEMP???
Oh man, return it and get electrical."
I second that statement! A mechanical gage measures oil temp away from the engine. the temp is read in the gage itself. without a recirculating oil line your readings will be inaccurate guaranteed. what you want is a temp sensor as close to the oil tap itself.

No thats wrong. It doesnt meaure away from the engine.
The autometer mech. temp gauges have a real PITA metal tube that needs to be
routed around. Its sooo much easier to route wire instead.

Its taken at the source.
The PITA metal line doesn't contain oil, but glycol (sp?) and maybe some other crap IIRC. Either way, the mech gauge is more accurate than the electrical but is harder to install in your average street car with all that dash board crap in it.. ac vents.. etc.
If you wanna plug the mechanical temp sensor into the engine block hole near the distributor you need a metric adapter.
