I recently purchased a d15b vtec-e engine from nippon. They sold it to me saying it was a d15z1, so they lie.

Anyway, the little info I can find on this engine isn't clear as to if it's a obd1 or obd2 engine.

So, can anyone tell me? If not, can you tell me a way to find out? Do i look at the dizzy plugs and can I tell from that?

I'm planning on using the p07 ECU on it, and I just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing here.

Oh, and please don't tell me I'm wasting my time on this engine. I bought it for a reason, and it's isn't to be like Vin Diesel.

 

Is an OBD1.
P07 is the right ECU for running that engine OBD1.

 

probably obd1. obd0 is pre 92...obd1 is 92 to 95, and obd2 is 96 and up

 

OBD2 D15Bs are 3 stage VTEC - has 2 VTEC solenoids - doesn't say VTEC on the valve cover

if thats the motor you have in the picture its not vtec e. it says d15b on the block? you know you can look on the head and it will say what year it is. on the numbers below the engine code whats the first number?

wrong motor.

Remember, the JDM d15b came in three different flavors.

1) VTEC
2) 3-stage vtec
3) vtec-e

THIS is my exact engine

 

If the dizzy has grey plugs, then it's OBD1. That one probably came out of a 92-95 civic.
