well i just installed an AEM CAI on my 95 otherwise stock gsr... It is making a steady humming/whining sound at idle, it is comming from the filter. is that normal ? it drives and sounds otherwise great. I just listened to my buddies cai on his Ls and its quiet at idle. its pretty loud and could be heard a few yards away. it came with the AEM filter if that matters.

hehe, its not a growl... the only reason i am abit concerned is because my buddies ls is completely quite with the same AEM CAI... the sound is not a growl, its a high pitch whine i knew it was supposed to whine/growl at high rpms, which it does... but at idle i thought it should be quiet

Completely normal. Mine does the same thing. I love all the little noises it makes.

My frineds GSR as well as my car do the same thing, like when you get up in the morning and go start it up or when the car is cold it will do it.

 

ok good aslong as its normal, i was just worried... I am not sure i like my car whislting at idle, its kinda wierd. but its worth it its nice and lound when hitting vtec.

 

Mine made a similar noise after installing it.
It goes away as dust collects in the filter i think, because I no longer hear it.
