Default mini me or full d16 swap.

i have been looking into both of these, right now i have a d15b7 and i want VTAAAK

here is the thing

pricewise i have noticed that a full d16 is gonna cost about the same as just doing a mini me. however a mini me seems to be much easier to do than a full swap (considering i dont have the tools)

when doing a mini me, will my redline go to 7200 like on a d16?

with a mini me, will the HP be the same (or roughly the same) as the d16?

also i have heard that a mini-me has higher compression than the d16z6, wouldnt that be better since im not gonna turbo?

hopefully i can get this cleared a bit, through my searches ive seen different answers and some which contradict the others.

also, no matter which way i go im gonna upgrade my tranny to the EX/SI tranny.

and thanks in advance

buddy was in the same spot and i told him since he wanted to go turbo to do a full d swap lower compresiion plus it seems liek almost every other day i read of someone having trouble with the mini me something about the timing it wont run right this and that. Just try to find a cheap full swap that way u get an ex-si trani also.. buddy got one for 600 sold all his **** for 200 and paid 400$ out of his pocket. Do the the math and think about it down the road a full swap is way better

true true. it wil be a bit as im paying for college, which is more important.

i would definatly rather have the full swap. and there is no way im sticking with this LX tranny.

decisions decisions ERRGGG

i know im not gonna turbo, and the mini me ive heard has a higher compession, especially if you get a y8 HG and take out the middle layer, and that just sounds better to me, and it would be easier for me to do.

ack headache, need more beer

I enjoyed my minime much more than any of the Z6's I've had. The timing issue is easily solved with an adjustable cam gear, but for simplicity's sake it's much easier and usually less time consuming to do the complete swap.

If you need help with either let me know, I'm in Hendersonville and have lost track of how many swaps I've done.

mini me will give you more torque but same hp and also you power band is alot better....also it should be fine for turbo....my buddy has a mini conversion in a 94 coupe and with a homemade turbo....he ran 14 flat as his best time but he consistently ran 14.2....all on slicks...

i have never tryed the mini me or really know anyone that has just see all the problems ppl post online.. plus all motor in a hatch with a d is kinda weak anyways good for about mid 15s with bolt ons... if you can get the **** to do the mini me cheap i might think about it but if your gonan pay 150 for the head 100 for the destributer plus head gasket and ecu and other things id just spend the money and a full z6 swap

i'd go for a mini swap its cheaper and more power....you can get a vtec head for probably 125 shipped, ecu for 100 dizzy for like 50...but a ex swap would probably run you like 500....probably even more...i'd mini and turbo...especially with the tranny you got....after you turbo it would pull really good....

im not gonna turbo, i know that if you get it tuned correctly and all that it will run a long time

but this is a daily driver that has to last me for as many years as it can, the body has 205k and the engine has some number above 100k so im gonna keep it NA

and im definatly leaning toward the mini me with ex tranny i think that will give me enough pull for my liking.

once i get through college the real surgery shall begin i hope to one day have a B series turbo

Whats the timing issue? what causes it, what does it do, and how is it fixed? I just did my minime swap and my car wont idle for no longer than 10 seconds when warmed up without dying. when its cold the idle is loppy, it goes from 1500 to 2300 back to 1500 then 2300RPM .... over and over until it warms up. then it will die. anyways, i cant figure out whats causing it and i read this thread and timing issues were mentioned.

I ran a Mini-Me in a CRX for a while last year. It was fun as hell! I was running 15.2 in the 1/4.
Set-up.........................

'92 B15b7 stock block

'00 Y8 head (mild port job by me)

'00 Intake and exhaust manifolds (port matched intake with B16a throttle body,
also the Y8's have a 4-2-1 header that I was running open )

VAFC-1

'91 CRX SI ecu, tranny and injectors

$25 dollar EBAY intake!

I would pull my friends 97 GSR with a Skunk2 intake manifold, DC 4-1 JDM and a P28 at the track every time. He had horrible 60-fts. My best was a 2.1 with Azenis
