Lately I've been seeing allot of crap on here about people putting H22s in CRXes. Ok I will start by saying, I am not a fan of H22s and a GREAT fan of the EF chassis. I kinda think of myself as a preserver of all things EF and greatly appreciate all of the engineers that came together and made this glorious chassis. I also appreciate all of those people that use the EF chassis as their platform of choice, and I appreciate all of the work people have done to improve upon this platform. Please do not hack up your EF and install an H22, there are far better engines you can spend your money on, like B-series, or even K-series. I personally don't like the K series, because I'm a hardcore B-series fan, and I live in a cave, but the weight is not substantually different, so I give the
. I understand that some people want to be different and for those people I urge them to buy something else other than an EF. I found a thread I participated in years ago when my friend was going to put an H22 in his EJ, and I think I did a fairly good job depicting the flaws of such a swap so I will just link to it so you can read yourselves.

Remember guys, everytime a retard kills an EF god creates a human that will get a design job at Honda, and add safety features, weight, crappy mac strut suspension, and such to make a Civic more civilized and shitty. Saddly at this rate pretty soon Kias will be > than Hondas. Don't be the guy that killed another EF, drive safe, don't rice it, and keep the H22 in the POS Chassis it came in. Thanks for reading, and help keep the EFs alive.

Glad you read the post before you made a post. I an H22 CRX will never handle as well as a B series equipped car, too much weight up front. Sure it will be good in a straight line, but thats not what these cars were made for.

i gotta agree w/ you bart. i'm a HUGE critic of these swaps. CRXs were built to drive, left and right, not a straight line.
however, 2point2 did a REAL nice job building his rex, i agree with that too. i just dont agree with the swap on a street ride.

Yeah. I agree with this guy. Just 80 pounds heavier than a B Series, and a hell of a lot more TQ. So what is stopping you? Seriously? Here'a a quick solution to that weight: Just put the battery in the back, and you've got just 30 pounds more in the front then when you started.
OMG! We're going to die! The car won't turn! OH NOES!
You are a complete moron man. That thread was worthless, and you looked like an *** in it.
Give it a rest, and let people do what they want to their cars. H22's are good solid motors, and can easily outrun a b series on a bad day.

I understand where you are coming from, B series is definetly an easier swap. I am also a B series fan, but I do love my h22 rex. For obvious reasons. Far as ******* up the car that it could never be reversed, that is un true too. There is slim to none hacking involved, or firewall damage. You can get away with un doing the spot welds on the passenger side chassis mount and bolting the new one in place. Far as keeping the integreaty of the car, my swap looks like an OEM job! I know how people feel about the B series in the crx its like a traditional thing. But why spend close to $6k on a swap and a rebuild to match the H22 stock potential. It is hard to put up a fight with a $2500 swap (h22) that can easily achieve 175-200 whp and 150+ trq. Far as ride quality being effected dramatically this is bull, I have full confidence in corners, could I see someone have a H22 EF on the circle track? sure can. Will I ever go back to B series in my or any rex? probably not. If you ask anyone that has an h22 in there EF they probably would never give it up.
H22 rexer possibly4Life!
Also I am selling the EF 88-91 Civic/Crx H22A motor mount kit $495 shipped!

I am a bit of a minimalistic purist, so any added weight is not happy on my car. Hell I would still be rocking the A6 that came in my car if they were as capable as the B-series conglomerate that is now going in it. I understand people will do what they want. I enjoy turning way more than going fast in a straight line, and I encorage others to experience the same automotive nirvana.

aftermarket front x-member (which is required for the swap) and a CF hood (optional) remove front bumper support (many people already do this anyway)
then relocate battery to rear as was already said. thats damn close to balancing out the weight added.
start with an HF and when its all said and done, you still weigh less then a DX, just a little front heavy, maybe 20-30 lbs.
i dont drive an h22 swapped car, nor would i. but for the price to power ratio i can see why people would jump on this like flies to honey.
with a strong aftermarket suspension (another swap requirement) theres no reason a h22ef couldnt enter your "nirvana" as long as it wasnt a 1991 SI to begin with.... imho
ive had a b16a rex for over a year. i like it. my next project is another 90 DX i got for 500 bucks. im hoping to do a type-s in it. so following your logic id be hacking up my priceless car and never entering nirvana just bc i want insane the TQ and HP its capable of, in a daily driver and still make it handle like my b16a car did....
its not impossible to do.

No matter if it is in the front or the back. There is absolutly no sense in reducing the capability of your car, but adding a big heavy motor just because it is cheaper. If you noticed I said it was ok to do an H22 in a drag car, but stupid if done in a street car. I stand by that also. I don't know how you drive on the street, but I like to turn fast more than anything. I love the feeling of a well sorted out chassis working well.</TD></TR></TABLE>
You add a B series, and that's adding weight. You add an intake, and that's adding weight. You add a larger exhaust, and that's adding weight. However, all of these things are offset by the increase in power. If you add an H series, and relocate the battery like I said, then you're still at a stock weight ratio. The only reason nobody does this is because it is at least 3 times as difficult as swapping a B series. This has been discussed over and over!
How many H22 swaps have you driven? And I know you're going to lie out your *** and tell us that you actually have, so don't even bother responding to that.

You know, by starting this, and letting people like me debunk this myth, I bet you're actually causing the opposite effect.
Go out and buy an H22 everyone! Steve at hmotors has them on sale constantly!

I am sort of happy people spread false info around on the Internet.. It makes the h22 swap in a crx "rare". Most of the people that cry and try to bash about this topic are people that have never owned/driven a h22 powered CRX before. And they probably don't have the time and patience to pull the swap off on their own.

if un run a b series tranny on ur h22 ef...the weight gains up front are negligable...even if u run the h22 tranny, what is 80 extra lbs...its like having a little kid riding around with you...and if u really think that is gonna dramatically change ur handling u gotta be dumb...u really think that people are gonna be road racing or auto Xing an h22 EF?

1989 Honda CRX DX MT 2048

1834 + 80 lbs = 1914.
1914<2048 according to the laws of physics. i realize its in the front half of the car, but as i said above, you can counter act it a bit. it depends on the shell you use i dont think its a bad swap or a bad handling car.
you can argue all day about if the h22 can rev high and stay healthy or whatever, i woudlnt even get into that, since i dont really care. im going straight from b to k if my plan pans out this year.

H22 is not as heavy as everything things. I had a B16 turbo in my EK, and i pulled it out and put in a all motor h22. With the B16 turbo, the car weighted 2900, and when i put in the all motor h22, the car weighted 2880. And no one complains that turbos are to heavy on B series. So why is a h22 to heavy?

Every pound counts man. Mabey more people should RR or Auto-X, and then they would spend money in good places like suspension and brakes.

I know adding a B series is adding weight, and I don't like that. I would still have a A6 if I could but they are inadequate, and have lackng potential. I've never driven a h22 CRX nor do I want to. I know some people have done good jobs installing them. But most are hack jobs, I remember a french canadian guy at niagara 2 years back that was a total hack job, and I am sure by now it has broken a mount or two, scary stuff, the engine didn't even sit straight.
