Default Couple B16 VTEC issues ...

Ok, today I noobed it real bad today... I did the LS 5th conversion on my y2 tranny, everything went real smooth, right up until the point I had to put the stupid Reverse gear plug back in (the one that covers the c-clip) well that bitch cracked my tranny case going back in and sheared the threads off.

So much for a successful conversion.. gonna run by honda tomorrow and see if I can order the top half of my tranny case, im real pissed ..

Ok, onto the issue at hand. My VTEC solenoid that attaches to the head is leaking. Ive replaced the uber expensive gaskets once already, but the larger one with the screen continues to leak. Any ideas on what could be wrong? Ive checked for flatness, refaced the mating surfaces and such, but to no avail.

Next thing, replacing my oil pan gasket (among other overhaul items im up to my knees with) and need to know the torque specs. I looked in the helms manual but couldnt find official honda specs. I saw that some people posted 10 ft lbs... that about right?

thanks fellas, as always H-T is the place to be

i had a leaking vtec before, and replacing that $20 gasket with the screen fixed the problem for me.

not sure about the torque specs, but should be less than 15

You want to use the tiniest amount of liquid sealant next time you put the gasket in. That'll make the world of difference.

Ok, i think ive fixed the vtec seal issue... Ive noticed that now a previous owner tried to seal the cam plug area with rtv, and its leaking.

I took it all apart and it looks as if its not even the correct cam plug, its got tons of gooped up rtv on it... grr i hate retards!

time to shop for a new plug I guess, i really think this is where my leak was coming from anyways upon further inspection.

Anyone used the GE cam plugs, or should I just go to honda and get a stock one?

I've got an STR cam seal on my B16 and it's never leaked since day one. I put it on before I swapped the motor in and that part has worked well.

9ft-lbs is correct torque spec for the oil pan, torque them per the helms, otherwise the gasket may not seat correctly, and go over them several times because each time you tighten one side isn't at 9ft lbs anymore
