Default Burning oil quickly

my motor seems to burn oil like a crazy man.
d16z6
oil = 5w30 valvoline cheap sh*t
mileage = 160,000

i have no oil leakage to be seen, i just notice that i burn oil like a mad man, my head gasket seems fine, absolutely no smoke coming out the back of the car. coolant lvl's are good.
i just seem to burn oil quick, i really don't know maybe it is normal for this car only had it 3 months.
when i run the car and open the oil cap it has slight steamyness coming and a little smell of hot oil.

The Big question is what should i be looking for and whats wrong if anything is?

what type of oil do you guys recommend that won't burn off so fast? also where do i buy it?

How much oil are you burning? They say once you hit 1qt per 1,000 miles time to start getting worried. If you are there dont feel bad because you car does have 160,000 miles. When I pull the oil cap I have some steam, and the smell of burnt oil. Three of my civics did this. I dont know if its bad or not. Two things to look at, how do your sparkplugs look? What does your muffler tip look like? I did a search about this last night, and there was a ton of info.

I wonder about but 5w/30 oil seems to be to thin for a motor with 160,000+ miles a thicker viscosity may help in the burning issue dont know, but let me ask you this when you step on it and hit V-TEC do you notice a puff of smoke coming out the back as you are looking though the rear-view mirror?? ..if it does my guess the valve seals my be bad.

i redline or get to 6800rpm about 4 times a week if that, only when someone really pisses me off in traffic.

well i took the head off and replaced the seals, some folks can do it while the head is on the car..it depends on your level of experience but the it's not hard to do it may take some time but honestly the good thing about it is that seals are hella cheap,so it can by a very eazy and cheap fix if you can do it yourself. and you wont have to worry if the oil is running low?, should i put oil in?, and you will recoupe the cost back because you wont be buying as much oil anymore
