EF Chassis Questions!?
Whats up guys, i haven't been into the EFs for awhile i had a couple and i'm excited to get another and really build it up proper. Nothing Extra Crazy, but relativly nice. Anyhow, i need a couple quick questions awnsered first and i have looked/searched already.
1st|= Which Models and or Years weigh the least?
2nd|= Which model is the easiest/ lease complicated to swap in a D16Y8
3rd|= Wiring wise is there a big differnt between the DX/SI? i heard HF definitly.
4th|= What parts am i looking at to change for this swap. Is they're a faq or guide online i could use?
Thats pretty much it for now thanks

1. Pretty much all the 88 cars and also the hf and std models from other years
2. Any Si or hf chassis
3. There is a very big difference between the dx/si. DX/LX/STD models run dual point fuel injection(2 injectors) while all other models run multipoint (4 injectors). Swapping a mulitpoint engine into a dualpoint car requires some significant wiring changes. By the way the hf and si are both multipoint and will require very little wiring.
4. Try the search function. Too much for me to write in one post.
Good Luck

thanks alot guys, i'm finally motivated to swap out my Y8 into my EF turbo that and as for the EJ look for b18b or c or even a b20... we will see how that goes later on; EF project is 1st.
quite helpful, thanks again.

Okay guys, here is number 5.
Tranny wise, in an EF w/ a D16Y8 Turbo.... Do i stick with the standard Y8 Trans.
Or look for another tranny with longer gears? Which is best for a Y8 Turbo setup.
DX Trannies are long as **** as i remember when i use to own an ef dx. i'm sure the std and hf might be to, but how's the EF SI trans? would that work? or like i said stick with the Y8 trans?
Anyhelp would be great.. thanks again.

The Y8 trans will not bolt into the ef chassis without a custom motor mount plus all of the other hydraulic clutch parts. I would stick with the si trans.

yes I would recommend going with either an 88 si hb or si crx... it will be a little heavier than the hf, but ultimately a better car, and comes with the transmission and wiring (minus the vtec and obd-1 conversion) but you can get stuff made by rywire.com for all of that, to save lots of frustration if you are unfamiliar with wiring. I believe that the 88s also had better brakes and suspension on the si models, or maybe they started doing that in 89 not sure...
