I have a 1996 prelude and a 2000 prelude sitting behind my house. The 2000 got rearended. The 1996 was not origionally a vtec car. I have searched for the swap information but can seem to find the correct stuff. Could anyone help me out here. I'm not sure if its going to be a plug and play or what. Both cars are 5 speeds. Any informatin in the right direction would help. I have alot of swaps in the DSM world under my belt so mechanics is not that hard. As for the wiring I'mm need a litle guidence. Thanks in advace
I'm interested in this too, what about the OBD1 to OBD2? I heard type S H22 that with 220 hp is OBD2. Everything is the same, but it is OBD2, what is it? Other ordinary H22a are just around 200hp, what's the difference? If I change all those piston, cam shaft, rebuilt all those engine parts, does it come out the same thing?
don - the type s has the following differences:
bigger intake manifold (Supposedly)
bigger cams
higher compression pistons
bigger exhaust manifold
appropriate computer program
thats it, do that you have a type s
as far as the swap goes, 2000 to 96 will be 100% direct and bolt in, and all the wiring will plug right up, they are exactly the same
the only thing you will have to do is wire vtec down to the engine harness....
and decide whether you are going to try to find a 96 prelude vtec ecu, because you cant use a 97+ ecu because of the immobilizer.....and the 96 prelude vtec(p13) is one of the rarest honda ecus there is....
you probably should convert to obd1 and hondata....

Obd2( Onboard Diagnositcs 2nd Generation) The type s engine has a higher compression ratio and different cams. Styler you should be able to use the 2000's engine harness and ecu but i'm not 100% sure on that.

Thanks for the replies guys. Looks like I need a P13. What exactly is the immobilizer. And can I wire it in from from the 2000 car I have the complete car. Hell I'm a mitsubishi tech and I've never heard of an immobilizer.

What other ECUs could I use in order to make this car pass state inspection. OBDII style. Thanks
THis car is for my mom and she just needs it running correctly.

What about if the 2000 is an SH? I know he'd have to keep the 2000 engine/transmission together, but would it still fit right?

Alright I got the engine in the car. Come to find out I need to actually use the 1996 h23 wiring harness. The h22 will not plug and play. I do have a couple of more questions.
What kind of injectors came on a 2000 Prelude and what kind came on a 1996 vtec prelude. Thanks
My 1996 prelude has a resistor box and my 2000 prelude doesn not have one
