can bad distributor effect performance?

Default can bad distributor effect performance?

like topic says, i dont know why my car feels much slower before. my dizzy just took a **** on me but i was thinking for a while it was giving out because it was making weird noises around that area and my car was heavily bogging. can anyone give me an answer to this one

Bad distributor=not firing right. No spark, no ignited air/fuel mixture=no kaboom in your cylinder=no work being done by the motor on that particulat stroke.
We'd need more details on what your problem really is, but just think about it.

dude im saying that my distributor was going out, as it was going out, will that effect any thing performance wise as compared to a perfectly fine distributor

what he was saying is that if you are having dizzy problems, then you couldn't possibly make as much power as if it was running right.

yes i know that, sorry i didn't make it clear on my first post. as i was driving i knew my dizzy was going out then one day it took a **** on me while i was on the way to work. so i had to push it home. it happen like a block from my house. would it affect alot of perforamnce or just a little? and my timing is correct

It really depends on what failed. It could slightly effect performance or greatly effect it as well. Let just assume something as simple as the cap. Now if the contacts were fucked you could lose spark on certain cylinders or have a bunch of misfires, I doubt a fast car is fast on 3 cyl.

no its not a cap and rotor, i jsut replaced them and took a look at them, it loooks as if it was brand new.

But yes something in the dist going bad could greatly effect performance.

ok well i got a d15 dizzy, which wouldn't fit mine so i took the coil and ignitor and swap it to my current one in the car, the check engine light went away but when i cranked the car is made a loud boom like a misfire and the light came back on. any ideas? i got a new dizzy coming in the mail, the whole thing. any ideas you guys?
