Ive had this cool Honda crank pulley tool from Schley Tools (paid $55 from my Snap On dealer) for awhile now, but never took any pics of it. So.. thought Id share since people always ask "How do you pull off/put on your crank pulley?"

Although I was putting on & Torquing down my crank pulley, not taking it off, same principal & tools are needed.

Heres what you need:

-Schley Tools Honda pulley tool
-1/2" Drive Breaker Bar (18'-24" length is perfect)
-1/2" or 3/8" long handled ratchet or another breaker bar (Torque wrench if putting the pulley on)
-19mm deep socket






Once I have all of my tools together, I place the breaker bar thats attached to the ST pulley tool above (if im tightening down) or below (if taking the pulley off) the axle to keep the tool and pulley in place when if cranking on it with the other ratchet or breaker bar.

Done deal.

You and me both. But man oh man, those air guns are so addicting. I ended up taking my valve cover nuts off with my air gun. Lazy i know, god i love that gun.

Haha yea me too. Sad isn't it?

Oh, and i found out that an air hammer works ******* GREAT for getting out the bitchpin.

Really? What type of bit did you use to get out the bitch pin with it? Something im going to really look into.

I'll find out exactly. It was a standard punch found in one of those cheap universal air hammer bit sets you get at autozone or whatever. I grinded the end down until it was the exact size of the pin. It was out in 4 seconds. You can do it without grinding it down, however, you will flare the end of the pin. I've used the same pin 5-6 times now though so its up to you.

an impact wrench does not always work, i've seen a crank pulley bolt own an IR Titanium 1/2" impact...

and the tool shown above with breaker bars got it off... for the right tool

Thats what i have, but mine has 1000ft "nut busting" torque. I **** you not thats what box said i had to get it

Its not all the gun itself. Its the compressor. One day my 33gallon took a **** on me so i had to use my 15, that thing was such ****, it didnt take wheel lugs off. Fixed the 33gallon and no probs. If you have a good compressor youll have a great gun.

 

I also have invested in that same tool. It works so nice!!

 

our 3/4 gun has yet to fail us

The IR titanium is solid, but it's really not terribly powerful. I use a Northern Tool composite impact wrench for crank pulley bolts, it has somewhere in the neighborhood of about 900 lb/ft of reverse torque and retails for $150.

I'd like to move up to 3/4 inch drive sometime in the future, but it's really kind of overkill for most Honda's.

 

you guys better be torquing down the crank bolt too!! I've seen too many come loose to NOT torque them to spec anymore.

BTW, if anybody is interested, I'm thinking about making a bunch of crank tools, like I made myself. It will be one solid piece, and the handle will be about 24 inches long...Probably sell for about 50 each

 

I will buy that tool for $50, tell me when!

I found that the A/c compressor bolts fit it perfectly. 5 taps with a hammer and its out. Never failed me yet.

 

I use moroso's tool. Its similar to the snap-on, but has a shaft already attached
