Default How long do they last?

I am curious how long the average Honda lasts before there is either a major failure or the engine begins to just wear out, such as burning oil or a burned valve or whathaveyou?

By "average" I mean not abused, maintained like it is supposed to and not overheated.

My 96 Accord has 196,000 and it's tighter than my mom's 02 Grand Am with 45,000.

No definite answer because everyone has different driving habits and different car maintence schedules. There is no ideal engine failure life. If I would take a good guess 200k+ miles

it all depends how well the owner takes care of it ,,,couple of my customer have over 400k both 91 accords ,,we have overhauled trannies both at clutches wore,,but do not use and oil at all ,,,they do oil + filter change every 3k and use regular 10w 30 ,, no expensive ****, the key is to keep it clean ...do their regular service interval ,,,,,,u got 196k if u upkeep it u got long way to go yet ..

i second all the mentioned above. i had a 87 lxi that went to 130k before the engine lost compression( so i was told), a 96 dx that went to 125k before it got totaled and now i have a 91 ex that is at 115k but engine was swapped at 94k. now i am pretty hard on my cars though. with good maintence i have heard accords going 250k-300k.

My 92 lx just clicked 224,000 and it still runs like new. Do for 3rd timing belt/water pump real soon. Burns a little oil, but what do you expect shifting near 6k, ha!!

Friends of mine had a 91ish CRX with 400k miles on it (don't think it was original motor). They treated the thing like complete ****. They would tow their ford explorer several miles with it! It NEVER had regular maintenance, maintenance was a belt or something breaking. When it died it probably hadn't had an oil change in 50k miles!!! They'd check the oil every few months and if there wasn't anything on the dipstick they'd add whatever they had laying around. Finally died when a belt broke and wrapped around the rod that holds the hood up and pulled it through the engine block...mechanical suicide to put it out of its misery.

Like most imports Hondas will last forever. Change your oil and you shouldn't have any problem getting to 250k miles.

I sold a 88 LX to my little sis that now has 327k miles on it, my boss has a 93 civic his daughter drives with 390k miles. Both have had regular oil services. Neither driver believes they are stunt drivers for a 'fast and furious' film though.

The thing that usually "kills" the older honda's is rust. Especially around here. 200,000 miles is expected, as long as regular maint is done. Honestly though, if you kept it clean, drove it nicely, and serviced it regularly.... I wouldn't put a lifespan on it.... the highest I have personally see in 465k.... on the infamous 91 body style. The problem comes with rust, as before and accidents. To make it 400,000 miles with no accidents is pretty impressive, and once the cars get up there in milage (250+) all it takes is a little fender bender to be totaled out. Currently I have only 56k on my 02 Accord, and I am planning on keeping it for a long time.... I'm sure I will want something newer, but I'll still hang onto it.
