i was wondering if any of you could shed some light on this problem,as i mentioned it is a random problem but its becoming more frequent,my idle normally sits 790-810rpm & volts @ 14.1,but all of a sudden it'll drop off to 600rpm & 12.1 volts, a recent trip to the rollers showed a horrible curve @ v-tec x & top end,
(dont know how to post pics) i've replaced distributor & had my alternator checked yesterday,
97 jdm itr
spoon ecu,throttle body

When idle drops, the alternator can't keep up, so I'd expect the voltage at the battery to drop to about 12 volts. I think that's unrelated.

sorry should have mentioned that voltage can stay at 12.1 without the idle fluctuating as well, i know its a hard one,i've had a few mech's look at it & it has my head wrecked

Your spoon ECU could be the cause of the bad power curve, i have a spoon ECU also in a 96spec JDM ITR and it bogs badly in 4th gear at 5000rpm, and considering most power runs are done in 4th gear then i suspect that this is your problem. The spoon ECU doesnt allow for the engine to be revved up gently like on a dyno run, its a race ECU and designed to keep the engine in VTEC in all gears. For example an ITR being driven on the track will never be below 5000rpm in 4th gear, if it is then the driver hasnt a clue and should just go home. Put your stock ECU back in again and take it back to the same dyno and see if the problem re-appears.

thanks for the input man,
i have a power fc on the way & i'm doing buddy club spec iv cams & valve train, but if there is an underlying problem i obviously want to sort that out first,
i'll try a standard ecu, but i've ran that spoon on the rollers with much smoother results b4,maybe i'll get the testers right foot checked
tanx
