greddy turbo kit not legal?
ok, i cant get a swap, and i am a n/a guy, but since i cant get a swap, im boosting my d16y7, i already have y8 transmission and intake manifold, but i want to get greddy's turbo kit because its legal and is pretty cheap for a kit, around 1800 bucks, i know its carb legal, but what about if i put it on my motor, a y7, will my car still be legal, and what is the deal with junkyard turbos, is this legal/can i pass inspection with a homemade kit........thanks in advance
no it's not.
Greddy kits are only legal on 92-95 and 96-00 civic EX's. Will they fit, yes. I have had both 92-95 and 96-00 kits on a 97 civic and they fit perfectly..only thing is the wiring is a bit different, and the fuel maps will be richer than they need be, especially since there is no VTEC, get it tuned and it will be all good.

The CARB number is issued for the vehicle its designed to fit. It is model specific also, so no, it would not be legal on your engine. what you COULD do and should do, is swap in the Y8, then put the turbo kit on. Then you would be all legal.

Legally, in California, they never will.

I believe the kits are also illegal if you have an FMIC or a BOV. GReddy kits are legal for the make/model it's made for EXCLUDING the intercooler/bov. That is why it is NOT included in their kits.

Depends on the laws where you live. I have no idea what your laws are.

buuuut most smog techs wount give it a second glance and if the BOV has a filter since your not supposed to have a vent to open air.

Go to a smog shop with a friends car that is similar to yours. Give the smog guy your NON TEST ONLY paper that he can scan, 50-100 bucks, and make sure you know he knows why your giving him cash
This way he/she can smog "your" car and send the actual results straight to the state like they always do, like they have to. All will be well, the smog tech will be 50-100 bucks richer, and you'll have sent information to the state saying that the smog tech checked and it was your car that he smogged.
no other way around it, you actually need to have a car that will test and pass. Usually they will be ok with it or not even notice if your friends car is the same color/make as yours.
BIG IMPORTANT STEP
You MUST make sure to (if the tech is not aware of what is going on) that they DO NOT READ THE MILEAGE OFF OF YOUR FRIENDS CAR. When they look at your records and your mileages dont seem consistent, well i'll let you guess
bye bye registration.
